Report: | A fairly long drawn out affair considering the 4 man team format, not assisted by a late start. Text from Gina at nearly 8pm wondering if she was at the corrected venue with no-one else there ...
Anyway, pretty decent matches all round.
Zeb had a battle with Lloyd, gradually getting into it after losing the first. This one was mainly notable for the comeback in the 4th from 4-10 to take the match, followed by a full blooded racket destruction! Another good win for Zeb.
Gina also had a battle. Honours even after the opening two games, but gradually the sounds of frustration from Paddy became more frequent, and Gina ran out a good winner.
Jack had a bit of a frustrating game again. Despite what looked like a good start, too many mistakes lost the first. A change to entirely the wrong sort of tactics somehow paid dividends in the 2nd (mainly due to several outright winners mixed in), but a big fall off in the 3rd and the need for a bit of luck (unforthcoming) in the 4th rounded off a win for Alex.
So far, so 3-1 all round. After the first two games, it looked like a win on count-back for Dulwich, with the author firing on no cylinders and Will racing around the court in trademark fashion. Somehow, despite the mistakes, the author clawed it back to 2-2 with Will adding his share of mistakes at the end of the 4th. The 5th was neck and neck most of the way, but a no let early on that only Will and the marker could understand, and an outrageous framed winner at 8-6 set Will up at the end. A mini comeback ended as the author ridiculously tinned a drop that would have made it 9-9 and it was done and dusted - but at least count-back went the other way!
Slim pickings in the bar afterwards as players drifted off early ... |
