Report: | Very strong line up from T.Wells last night at Langley Towers. Lots of battling performances from PL but all to no avail.
Zeb had a cracking start against Jason, but as Jason got into his stride and stepped the pace up in the 2nd, Zeb unaccountably got a bit tense and started to go for shots that weren't really there for the taking. Shame really, as the first game was a cracking performance. Nevertheless, a sterling effort and a good game to watch.
Didn't see any of Gina's game but I think it's one she'll want to forget. Alex's enormous reach played a key part from all accounts and he seems to having controlled things pretty much from the off.
The author had a good battle against Jolyon, and it seemed to follow the usual pattern with these two. One good game for the author where Jolyon appears to drift off it a bit, and three rearguard actions that are ultimately unsuccessful. This one wasn't helped at all by a total fall away in the 3rd game, that was frankly dire. Jolyon finished off with a massive flourish. Two successive dead nick rollers near the end of the game, and having got the taste for it, two more very close attempts that fortunately just missed the same result.
Billy was a bit unlucky against Johnny. Just as it looked as though Johnny's fitness had run out in the 3rd, things were turned around in the 4th and a tight decider was snatched by Johnny. A good competitive match with both players giving a good account of themselves.
A far more than usually high-brow conversation in the bar afterwards. Not too many matches I recall end up with discussions about A Brief History of Time, Occams Razor, politics etc (meanwhile at the PL plebs end of the table, we were more into Zeb's propensity to experience a - literal - post match meltdown).
