Report: | Thankfully, a very short handed PL were spared to a certain extent last night by the late withdrawal of Paul Johnson from the BCC lineup. What resulted was a pretty competitive match despite the ultimate result being far from ideal for PL. The PL stand-ins performed similar heroics to those seen in the Dulwich match a few weeks back.
Zeb v Lewy: This was an about face from the 1st half. Lewy was on a mission having apparently been so traumatised by his 1st half match with Zeb. The latter was hitting his drops about an inch too low judging by what I saw, and as the match wore on, the frustration levels grew. Lewy stuck to it and edged a tight 4th to take it in 4.
Author v James: A very tight first with the author keeping in front all the way through until getting an extremely frustrating "non call" as the ball deviated upwards off the sidewall line to miss out on going 10-7 up. From this point onwards however, the tide turned. The 2nd wasn't too bad, but despite James starting the "I'm so stiff and sore" limbering routine in between points, the author was off in la-la land and failed to capitalise at all. Disappointing.
Tom v Sam: A splendid performance from Tom. Five fluky winners from Tom in the 1st had Sam gazing heavenward on a regular basis, but after that it was just good play as Tom took the battle to his opponent. A sterling performance, ultimately a bit unlucky in the 5th for a narrow loss.
Richard v Ian: Whilst I saw none of this, looking at the scoreline it seems to have gone pretty much the same way as Tom's match with Richard taking it all the way. Both subs punching well above their weight. Well done both.
Usual post match yarning with BCC afterwards, with the memories of Ken Cotton being very much to the fore. A good match ...
