Report

Report:A weak PL v a strong Mote didn't bode too well, but in the end it turned out to be a good match with the Peels putting in a couple of sterling performances

Nick v Ben
A wily old stager performance from Nick, minimising the amount of movement needed (thankfully for him) and maximising the numbers of "sports centre" reverse angle winners. Good tactical play, mixed in with a few more mistakes than required from Ben, was enough to see Nick complete his second good win in a fortnight. On the injury comeback trail for the thousandth time and in training for the old crocks Masters, Nick looks to be on an upward trajectory.

Next door, Jack v Ryan
This was a great result for Jack who has been struggling for a while on the confidence front. Only saw this via peripheral vision, but it looked a good hard battle. Ryan, very slow off the mark and a bit casual in the 1st. He reversed this to take the 2nd comfortably and a tight 3rd less so, but Jack hung in there and took the last two games for a good win.

After this, the inevitable happened, with Mote's 1 and 2 rather too strong for PL.

Author v James
The former played pretty well in this, but every ball came back no matter how tight, and taking the ball early and applying pressure was enough for James to take it in three, despite some competitive rallying.

Billy v Neil
Didn't see a ball of this but judging from some of the talk in the bar afterwards it was a little tetchy at times. Billy just back off holiday narrowly failed to take the 2nd but 1st and 3rd looked like comfortable score-lines for Neil.

So, a count-back loss but in the circumstances a good rearguard action, and at least Neil has found a(nother) new way to wind up "Nicholas" Peel.
