Report

Report:It was the Match after Christmas but Tubby Tel hadn't put on as much weight as he lost before Christmas and was quick out of the blocks to stun John Bossley 3-0. With a cold court both players were going for early winners and it was noted that the ball only got to the back wall 6 times in all three games!!! Next on was Ron Terry and Steve Spencer during their game the combination of a cold night and a space heater had caused condensation on the court walls creating some interesting shots and angles. However Ron managed to keep control also winning in 3. The two Keiths were next on in a seesaw match Keith P winning the first 9-0 but Keith L dominating the next 2 with his short game and good chasing down before Keith P tokk the final 2 games. Andy and Martin then took the court with the wettest walls Martin dominating the first with strong driving before Andy managed to adapt to the conditions getting some strange shots which bemused Martin and although the next two games were close Andy managed to squeeze out the winning points. In the Final game Andy went off to a storming start going 8-1 up before Martin made a spirited come back to 8-7 before Andy closed it out. Finally Surrey colleagues Andy Crispin and Ian Hammerton took court. Ian did well in the first two before Andy fought back to take the third. The fourth game was also hard fought but Ian eventually got to Match point only to be tricked by a ball that had squirted off the walls and landed in the middle of the court but jumped sideways causing Ian to miss hit it into the Tin. However he kept his cool to win the match a couple of points later.
