Report

Report:Ted Jeal asked us on Wednesday last week to play this match at the end of the season as his team were all unavailable. As it transpired they were all on Valentines dates. Impressive to see so many Lotharios in one team ready to give up squash in order to charm the ladies of Bromley. We could not get a team out for the end of the season, that being the end of the season, most players had other plans. Nor could we be assured of courts given that we are a members' club and they may have had something to say about this. so it was a case of playing the scheduled fixture or regrettably a walkover.

Having asked for confirmation from BLTC on whether they would turn up with a team or not we were met with a wall of silence. Maybe the BLTC skipper was too busy with his Valentines date and chivalry prevented him from ignoring his lady friend. At about 7.30p.m. on match day we were told that BLTC would be turning up but only with four players. In fact five turned up but one was not nominated. Those who represented their club should be commended for their effort but as can be seen from the nominations above this was a compete mismatch.

Had the BLTC skipper followed common practice and informed us as a matter of courtesy that he was putting out 4 players along with their rankings, we would have endeavoured to put out lower ranked players to provide an even match. It may be that BLTC did not know until the eleventh hour who they had, in which case we should have been kept updated. I hope those who came felt that they were given a good run around in any event and enjoyed the hospitality.
