Report

Report: Bromley "we hold the league up" welcomed Warlingham who then proceeded to beat us 4-1. First up Nick v Nick, without a Nick in site!

Bromley Nick played his usual game - magic shots, volley boasts, always looked on top only to lose out to the other Nick who ran and ran and played with a technique not seen before and likely not to be seen again. A good win for Nick!! Meanwhile ice man Scott took on Umar - clear from the start that Scott was having trouble turning with a swollen knee, which wasn't helpful against Umar, another runner with some good triple boasts and shots which made Scott twist and turn. Umar goes 2 up - Scott then gets more of his winners in, runs a bit easier and forces Umar into errors and takes the third - Umar rallies back in the 4th with fitness and movement overcoming the stylish shots of Scott. Next on Danny - drafted in to strengthen the team - played Robert another fit, gazelle!!! Some excellent squash -all the games were even up to half way - Danny hitting some excellent winners, moving Robert around and deceivingly quick - however, when the holiday, gallons of beer, meat pies took its toll on Danny and Robert maintained his pace and racquet control, particualry on fore-hand volleys, Robert ran out a deserved winner. Next on wonder man Steve against Gary. Tight first game with both players taking it in turn to edge forward - Steve hitting some of his forehand winners and moving Gary around - another runner with extended arms, digging the balls out of the corners, little backswing, all wrist, but unfortunately also good at hitting the tin - one up to Steve. The second started the same but Steve got into his game and improved his accuracy. The third saw Steve "on fire" and Gary unable to fight back - 3-0 to Steve. Last on Stewart v John. An excellent match - good quality squash - John took the first with his better agility and choice of shot. Stewart fought back in the second and had game ball only to go down 10-8. Stewart went 7-0 up in the third but John kept his game together and Stewart fell in love with his forehand drops into the tin and went down 9-7. So we equalled our previous best result of 4 points and that's with our strongest teams - the future looks very positive, but we do provide the best food, that should be worth some bonus points!!
