Report

Report: Strongest team in the division (holding up all the others) entertained Blackheath. It looked good on paper with Blackheath bringing their fourth team apart from the number 5 from the 3rd team - not to be. First up Richard and Sean. Sean raced to a 2 game lead showing his guile and experience and Richard like a headless chicken - bantam!! Richard eventually calmed down, found his brain and was competitive in the 3rd going down 9-7. Meanwhile out of sorts Keeley took on Simon who won the first 9-1 - nice Christmas present. Keeley woke up in the 2nd and a better match followed and Keeley won the next two. Simon continued with his good retrieving, hard hitting fore-hands and front court boasts and Keeley lost her concentration and Simon won 3-2. Next on 3-2, 2-3 man Stewart v Paul First 3 games hard fought, bit contentious and Paul 2-1 up. Anyway, Stewart settled down, returned to basic squash - accurate lengths and drops and won the next 2 comfortably - another 3-2 !!! Meanwhile Steve took on Gabor - Gabor went 5-0 up and Steve looked in trouble - well he was - Gabor technically good and right shot selection had Steve all over the place. Nevertheless, Steve as he often does raised his game, got his legs going and played better defensive shots and rallied back and lost 9-4. Steve having gathered momentum and presumably a bit more confidence in his recent injury maintained the pace and took the second 9-7. However, Gabor remained tight and accurate and overall was more consistent and won 9-4, 9-3. Finally, Mark and Abhishek - I didn't see this match and Mark tells me he didn't either!!! Abhisek won 3-0. So there we have it, all matches lost and 1 to go.
