Report

Report: First up champion Keeley who despite having drank a bottle of Prosecco before the match, came out flying - Steve didn't know what hit him - 9/1 to Keeley. Steve recovered well, showed good mobility round the court, better defensive shots and was in it until 6-6, when Keeley showed more accuracy and hit a number of winning drops and boasts. Steve again, fought well in the 3rd, showing some good shots and occasionally sending Keeley the wrong way - however, Keeley kept up her concentration, was very mobile and had the more consistent control to take the match 3-0. Meanwhile Ross took on Cesare and won the first comfortably - controlling the T and keeping Cesare at the back of the court. Despite winning the first comfortably it was obvious Cesare had more to give and the second was much closer. Ross with better control forcing Cesare into more mistakes and winning 9-6. By now Cesare was warming to the game and his agility and speed onto the ball saw him catching Ross out with a better mixture of shots, especially back-hand boasts - took the 3rd 9,7 and followed up taking the 4th 9-4. Fifth game was nip and tuck and hard fought with Cesare taking it 9-7. Next on Stuart v Richard - what an excellent match. Stuart seeming in control but putting easy shots into the tin. Richard looking a tad lethargic and off the pace, only to sprint round the court with unbelievable speed and then cracking the ball at 100mph - catching Stuart flat-footed - 9-3 to Richard. The 2nd saw Start cutting down on the errors and managing to take the rallies to the 5th and 6th shot which he nearly always won - Richard still hit winners from nowhere and fought all the way - only for Stuart to take the 2nd, 9/7. The 3rd game was a marathon - one minute Stuart in control, sending Richard all over the place, retrieving well and again letting Richard off the hook with easy winners to play - this was most probably the result of Richard despite looking tired out, reading the game well, moving forward with great pace and hammering home winners with good accuracy. Stuart 8/7 up, Richard levels, hand in, hand out, you do the okey pokey and ... after more long rallies, Stuart took the game 10/8. Both players exhausted. 4th game - clear that Richard had given his all and Stuarts new training regime kick in and saw him take the 4th 9/0. Meanwhile another marathon between Paul and John. Every game exactly the same - Paul winning with hard accurate drives and losing with loose shots, especially round the front. John winning by running everything down and losing points when Paul kept up the pace. Match wen to 5 and John proved the most consistent and won 3/2 - a good sporting match. So, 2-2. Last on Scott and Simmon. Scott started the better, tight shots, moving Simon backwards and forwards and Simon, uncharacteristically hitting many shots in the tin. 9/2 to Scott, Simon regained his touch in the 2nd, hitting his usual winners from all round the court, including his favourite reverse angle. Scott had to work for all his points and went 7-3 up. Simon is always likely to hit his winners which he did and drew level at 7-7. Scott much fitter these days, rallied BACK AND TOOK THE 2ND 9/7. The 3rd followed a similar pattern and although Scott looked in control the scores remained even with Simon taking a 6/5 lead. However, Scott tightened up his game, payed more percentage shots and put his winners away very accurately, especially backhand drops and won the last 5 points comfortably and won 9/6. Another 3-2, but this time to Bromley!! A good evening with Scott winning the man of the match reward - lettuce seeds for his allotment.
