| Report: | Great evening to start the season off. Five hard-fought matches, but all played in a sporting and friendly manner.
The Mote veterans, club secretary Richard Coward and chairman-elect Alan Thatcher, got the home side off to a solid start with two 3-1 victories against Rob Colman and Adam Smith respectively at two and five.
At third string, Nick Griffith battled through against Pete Vines to win three hard-fought games.
At fourth string, Phoebe Colman began in superb form against Tim Casey, striking the ball superbly and moving her opponent all over the corner.
As Tim worked his way into the game, Phoebe began to panic a little and several long rallies ended with the ball being slammed into the tin. As Phoebe's challenge faded, Tim maintained excellent pace and accuracy to see out the match 3-1.
At first string, The Mote's Joe Wheatley was struggling with an Achilles strain and Mark Roxburgh enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 win to gain a consolation point for Limpsfield.
Following a pizza overdose, both sides were looking forward to the return. |
