Report: | Bromley CC hosted Knole Park on this chilly Wednesday night (sorry guys, heating is STILL not working).
1st up on court was Ross vs the very quiet and reserved John. John being very awkward with the left handed shots giving Ross an early scare but once Ross got his game on there was only going to be one winner and Ross took the match 3-0. Scintillating Ross....scintillating !
On the next court was the ex captain Paul Roberts. And being an ex captain you would have though he would have known better than to turn up and play with a chesty cough and infection.
I didn't get to see any of this (I heard him coughing from the other court) but by all accounts Paul was way off the pace and not his usual self. Maybe the chest infection ?
He did manage to get a point for the team though as he lost 1-3.
Sam Warnett took to the court and strode around with his long gangly legs and pretty much chased the ball to no avail as Tim took the 1st game 9-1.
Could this be a crushing defeat for Sam ? The answer was no. He composed himself and started to play some lovely squash and took complete control of the game winning the next 3 games and only conceding 5 points in them 3. Well done Sam. Great win.
On to the rematch of a 3-2 classic back in 2015 as Kev took on Tom. Tom the winner last time meant Kev was extra determined to get the win this time and after going behind in the 1st 2 games came back to win them both and take a 2-0 lead. Kev then took a 7-2 lead in the 3rd and he could taste the victory. Tom however dug in came back to win 7-9. Kev's head frazzled Tom won the next 2-9 and it was all on the last game.....again !
It was back and forth but Kev got to match ball at 8-7 but the resilience of Tom paid off and he got it back to 8-8 and then sealed the match 8-10. Another 3-2 win for Tom. I struggled to sleep last night, thanks for that Tom ;-)
On to the deciding match of the night and it was fitting that it was down to the number 1's to win the match for their teams.
Fresh from marking (and giving one of the most outrageous no let decisions against ME!!!) Tony Davies took on Chris and the pace was electric to start with.
Tony with some unusual errors early on and plenty of hand outs. Chris was covering the court really well but once Tony started to get his eye in it was one way traffic. Tony dominated the T and put away some classy shots to take the match 3-0 and give Bromley a 3-2 victory to keep them top of the league.
Top blokes from Knole park, always a pleasure. |
