Report: | Both teams did well in trying circumstances. Phoebe kicked off with several broken strings on several rackets, which did not help her demeanour; luckily father Rob was on hand to absorb the brunt. We must not forget that Chris played the right kind of game and very well.
Jarrod was equally efficient in coping with the browbeaten Rob; bringing out some of his special shots for the occasion.
Jon King, making a rare appearance in Kent, had little trouble dealing with Fernando, who was suffering from a rare Argentinian bug. The air was less blue as a result and we are thankful for that.
By 9:00 a few stragglers from Scotland and Surrey had started to arrive, much to the relief of the rules officials. Tim started brightly against a clearly rusty George, but allowed a few debates about lets to get in his head, just at the time he should have been turning the screws on George's mistakes. The need for 4 changes of marker didn't help, as Jon had to step over to traffic control to guide Michael in to land. Tim losing a game he should have won on better form.
So a reluctant John was left with the deciding rubber against a resplendantly yellow-shirted Michael, imported from an earlier match in Surrey. A few lucky framed shots later and John had taken the third game, to salvage some Homepride. Michael then closed out the fourth comfortably in time to get back to Surrey before closing time. The remainder of the teams enjoyed the first of several Christmas dinners courtesy of Barry at The Anchor.
