Report

Report: The last home fixture of the 2016/2017 winter league saw Bromley host Bexley.

1st up on court we had the 14 year old squash prodigy Zach Bhana vs the veteran Paul Roberts.
Zach got off to flyer and since the away fixture you could really see how much he is improving with every passing day.

The power had improved and the court awareness was much better and he simply had too much movement for Paul and took the 1st game 6-9.

Paul rallied back and started to over power Zach and took the 2nd 9-5.

Game 3 and 4 to Zach however who claimed a very impressive victory 3-1.
Proud dad Nanu was watching from the gallery and although delighted with his sons performance he was brought back down to earth with the sad news that Zach had broken his squash goggles. In the words of Nanu "Thats like the 3rd pair he's broken!!" Better up that pocket money Nanu.

On the next court at the same time was number 2 seeds Ross and Adam.
Ross seemed to be in control of the game and took the 1st 9-6 but Adam however woke up and took the next 2 games 1-9 and 4-9.

A defeat looked on the cards for Ross however he got his 2nd wind and took the next 2 games 9-3, 9-4 to claim a very good 3-2 win.

Adam consoled himself after at the post match meal by consuming a grand total of around 8 sausages a huge lump of mash and a ton of cabbage. Well fed that man !! Man vs Food presenter watch out !

Next up was Sam Warnett and Meir Mizrahi. A totally one sided affair this with Sam winning comfortably 9-1, 9-0, 9-4. A good win for Sam and a bad day at the office for Meir.

On court 3 at the same time was a battle of the skippers. Gimenez vs Bacon.

Gareth took advantage of some loose serving and returning of serve from Kevin and was finishing them off with some real style. Gareth taking the 1st 7-9.

Kevin then took control of the next game playing lots of drop shot winners and took it 9-3.

Gareth seemed to drop off the pace in the 3rd and 4th and Kevin eventually came out on top winning the games 9-4 and 9-3. 3-1 Gimenez.

Finally it was left to the number one seeds to battle it out as Tony took on Bexley's very own Michael Van Gerwin all the way from the Netherlands Marijin.

The 1st game saw plenty of power hitting from Marijin and also some subtle deceptive drops. Tony however started to read Marijin's game and took the 1st 9-4.

A few traffic issues started to occur as Marijin started to tire.
The plasterers have been booked in and we will be sending a bill to Bexley for the repair to the hole in the wall after Marijin took a flying dive whilst headbutting the side wall of court 2 :-)

After the collisions and stunts had stopped Tony took complete control and won the last 2 games 9-1, 9-6.

A valiant effort from the Dutchman but Tony just too good.

Thanks for the game Bexley. Always a pleasure.

So with Bromley almost securing promotion with this 4-1 win they now go to top of the table Blackheath next Wednesday trailing them by 12 points in this final game of the season.

Going to be very hard to snatch the title from Blackheath but anything is possible and Bromley will go there and will give 100%.
