Report

Report:A sweltering night at PL. Not off to a great start when it transpired that there'd been a cock-up of some sort on the court bookings. All we really needed with two teams at home was a late start with two of the courts not kicking off until 8.15pm.

To add to the fun, the club had managed to run out of squash balls(!), and there was some dispute over who was due the dubious honour of having court 4. Thankfully not the 1st team's turn on that one!

Anyway, it turned out to be a competitive match.

First off Kennedy v Woods.
This was a very tight match. Tom sprayed his usual brand of very deceptive shots around the four corners of the court, often catching Gina out as she struggled to get the tactics right. At any rate he thrived on the angles she was giving him, and only a spectacular comeback in the 3rd saw Gina leading as we crossed the half way mark. A (with the benefit of hindsight) couple of dubious decisions from the author in the 4th did Gina no favours whatsoever, but her mobility plus tighter, deeper length, combined with Tom being totally wiped by then, saw her complete a good win.

Young v Baker.
Didn't see any of this, but Zeb controlled the first two games pretty comprehensively, but started to flag a bit according to Jack, marking, in the 3rd. He turned it back round in the 4th however to complete a good win in difficult conditions. It looked like a little bit of an identity crisis for Zeb as he'd pitched up in his Limpsfield shirt, to find the Limpsfield team playing the 3rd team on the other courts.

London snr v Miles.
The author managed to maintain a pretty good width and length throughout this one, and Billy seemed to be getting slightly frustrated. It was a pretty tough match from where I was standing, and the score doesn't really reflect that. It certainly wanted to finish in 3!

Last off (just): Mitterer v Henley.
Again, saw nothing of this match, but Jack saw Ed claw back a two game deficit, before doing just enough in the 5th to make it a clean sweep for the home team.

The Canterbury motivation team were in full flow in the bar, trying to convince (hopefully unsuccessfully!!) Billy that his opponent was due to be 70 next January! A very hot and steamy evening thankfully finished in reasonable time, with everyone done and out of the door before the 3rd team match had completed.
