| Report: | Craig and Karen kicked off the evening, Karen immediately taking the initiative courtesy of a long series of beautifully placed lob serves. Craig learnt on the road and gradually chased the ball down in some hard-fought rallies but Karen's match experience counted in the end. Poor Tim hardly got going against Nick when a pulled calf muscle made him retire. So it was up to Howard to try saving the day for Bromley. All looked good at the start but Andy intercepted a number of rather predictable 'winners' and took the first game. His form dipped a little in the 3rd as Howard made some rather tasty drops, but Andy came back hard in the 4th to win. Brian is looking to regain his former range and accuracy of shots and was making Darren work at the start but too many unforced (and forced) errors put Darren ahead after which he never looked back. Match of the evening went to Gordon and Fergus. Similar styles and ranges of shot made for 5 exciting games. The result could have gone either way but Fergus had a run of well-placed, wrong-footing shots at just the right time. Once again, this completely unbiased observer would point out that the points rather misrepresent the quality and closeness of the matches! |
