Report: | This was the most entertaining fixture of Bromley's season so far. For a start we saw Louise give an exhibition match with a bemused Luis (yes, confusing for the marker). The lad was playing well but the drops were too accurate and the wrong-footing lob-volleys such a good length that Luis was mostly on the defensive. He put more pressure on in the 3rd game but Louise smoothly moved up a gear to win. I think I counted Louise being caught off-balance about four times in the match. I saw little of Tim and Dan's match but each glimpse had Dan in the driving seat. Darius and Dale were well-matched, at least for four games, Darius clearly having benefitted from a "how to win your match" coaching session from Ted earlier in the evening (Ted though having declined my offer of a no-win-no-fee deal). Particularly after a controversial call seemed to upset Dale's concentration in the 2nd game, Darius looked to have a winning strategy. But, from the middle of the 4th this fell apart and a tired Dale just had to stand on the T and send the boy from corner to corner. However, a promise of things to come from Darius if he perseveres. Meanwhile Brian and Paul, adversaries of old, were reunited for what was seeming a brief moment as Paul quickly went two games up. Then Brian hit some form, made fewer unforced errors and levelled at 2-2. Then it was blow for blow as a tiring Paul tinned anything high and a limping Brian was caught more often than Paul by some great boasting. In the end, the lottery of shots favoured Paul. What match could be closer? The answer: the next one! Craig and Jamie traded drive for drive, with an occasional drop shot that was usually retrieved, for 5 games. They were probably tiring in equal measure too but they showed consistency to the end. Jamie had two match balls but couldn't quite clinch victory whilst Craig just needed the one to pull off his second win of the summer. I for one look forward to the return fixture at Sydenham. |
