Report: | The first match set the scene nicely: at no 4, Craig was relentless against Matt, returning almost everything until Matt was physically exhausted, a good example of how to work your opponent until, whatever their game plan, they are incapable of executing it. 3-0 and a good start. Meanwhile Nigel, who gallantly stepped in at the last minute, struggled against young, fit and very capable Andy: 0-3. So matches one apiece. Then came Tim (at no 3) against another agile and useful youngster, Henry (a different Henry to the Henry of the same name who played us in the first half – I suspect another couple of points coming our way!). This was Tim’s finest hour and although I saw only glimpses of his match, Tim seemed in command and was determined not to be oppressed by some hard hitting: 3-1. Talking of hard hitting, Darius played a solid match against old campaigner Gary. Darius’ energy, extraordinary speed around the court and some clever racquet work gave him victory in 3 games and Bromley the match. Sadly, ex-Sundridge player Garth pulled a muscle early in his match against Rich Hailston but bravely played through to the end. So, a 3-2 win for bottom of the division Bromley and a great confidence booster. |
