Report: | In the early hours of match day I received the now statutory nandy pandy bum kissing call from 'a good few beers' pleading for his usual lift, nothing new there me thinks. However, the call then developes to 'while your over my neck of the woods, how would you fancy popping to the railway station and picking up a certain Tim Garner as he has no way of getting to the Hill.' This begged the question from me 'why would I want to spend my valuable time transporting the opposition number 1 to the Hill so that he could bash the butt off the Tobster taking away valuable points?' The answer I received was long, tedious, pathetic and some people would call honourable.
Anyway, Tip Top Tobster v That Garner fellow.
A good high quality match as would be expected but TTT seemed to get tight when forcing the winning shot thus clipping the tin as is often the case when playing someone you know will not give you to many chances.
3 zip to the chauffeured one.
Debt collector v Mark
A long hard feeder session with AGFB on Saturday meant some new tactics to be tried which in the main worked a treat (cheers for that mate) The result being plenty of control around the T. Mark was always game throughout but everything seemed to click for the DC resulting in a 3-0 win.
Artful Alex v Duncan
Didn't see this one as performing marking duties on other court
but after interviewing both players in a post match debrief I was none the wiser how the game went. Alex stressing the first two games although tight in points were always under control while deciding to play the third at a higher pace thus taking it 9-2. Duncan's view was 'He was a jammey git !'
Mighty Mac v Ian
No question, Gordon is starting on the road back to the quality of squash he was playing a year ago.
A virtually error free performance with clinical finishing meant Ian never really got a sniff in this one which says a lot as I feel he will be a tough proposition for most people at 4 or 5 this season.
A Good Few Beers v 'The Eyeball'
When Steve realised he was playing AGFB at three he seemed to shrink about two feet which left him at 6ft 4.
But little did Steve Know all was not well with his opponent from the Hill. The injury sustained after his stupid schedule two weeks ago as reported earlier meant full movement and extension to the ball was impossible. Fortunately Steve was to busy wallowing in self pity to spot this even though Tim was making every effort to highlight the fact.
That said this was a pretty heroic performance from the captain and it was even said in the bar later that VC's were earned for less at Rorkes Drift against the Zulus ! (can I move up the order now I've quoted you AGFB ?)
All in all damage limitation job done by the Hill but questions will surley be raised about TTT's future position in the team.
