Report

Report:Bexley were the vistors to Bromley on this very hot summers evening. Bouncy balls again in store for both teams.

1st 2 matches up saw Paul Roberts vs Meir Mizrahi and Sam Warnett vs Marijin Bax.

The Roberts Mizrahi clash started with plenty of hand outs with both players making some lovely shots to then follow up with some pretty naff ones of their own. At the vital moment though Paul cut out the mistakes and took the 1st 9-7.

The 2nd game was another tight-ish affair with Paul taking it 9-6.

Meir looked to be tired and in the 3rd Paul was catching him out with nice cross court drives leaving Mr Mizrahi flat footed. Ex captain Paul taking the 3rd 9-3 to give Bromley the 1-0 lead.

On court 3 Sam vs Marijin saw a tight tight start with Sam making some early mistakes as Marijin was cracking the ball with some might.
However Sam (HE-MAN) Warnett tightened up his game and his shots and took the 1st 9-5.

The 2nd again fairly tight to start with as both players were locked at 4-4 but Sam pointed his blow up sword to the castle of greyskull and went on a rampage of flowing squash to win every single point up for grabs left in the match taking the 2nd 9-4 and the 3rd 9-0. 2-0 Bromley and a top performance for the ever improving Sam Warnett.

Next 2 games saw Giles Skilicorn and Joseph Delfino and Kevin Gimenez and Vic Hulland lock horns.

Giles who has only recently returned to squash after a long period away has been getting better every week and took this match 3-1 showing glimpses of absolute quality with his left wand. Well played Giles. 3-0 Bromley - match won.

Skipper Gimenez and Vic Hulland meanwhile had got going and it was Vic who took the 1st game. Kevin inexplicably teeing up the very dangerous left hand of Vic and getting punished in the process. 4-9 Hulland.

The 2nd game saw Kevin play more accurate shots using the drop to win lots of points. 9-4 Gimenez

The 3rd game was a masterclass from Gimenez. It was like watching a short tubby pasty Ramy Ashour as he took the 3rd game 9-0 to take a 2-1 lead.

It looked as if the 9-0 had gone to his head though and Vic fought back to take a 4-1 lead. Eventually it ended up 9-7 to Kev to take the game 3-1 and to give Bromley a 4-0 lead on the night.

So it was left to Luke Grindle to try and stop the 5-0 whitewash.
Sadly for Luke he found Bromley's number 1 Tony Davies in top form and he never looked like losing taking the 1st 9-2.

Some great rallies throughout the 2nd again with Tony taking the 2nd 9-3.

Luke fought back strong in the 3rd and took the game to 8-8 with some top quality squash from both players. Tony surprised everyone calling set 1. He managed to win his serve back to gain match ball but Luke resiliently himself won his serve back.
Luke then took the game with Tony playing it just on the red tape on the side wall. 2-1.

Tony managed to wrap up the match in the 4th playing some lovely tight drives down each line along with throwing in some lobs perfectly weighted when needed. A fine performance against a very quick younger opponent in Luke. Lovely squash to watch. 3-1 Tony and 5-0 to Bromley.

Always a pleasure hosting the Bexley boys. See you in the return fixture.
