Report

Report:Sadly Knole Park were unable to field a team of legible players due to them being team tied to the 1st team.
They did however turn up with a team for what was essentially a friendly.

1st up on court was Tony vs Sam. Tony, the much more older of the 2 started really well taking a 4-0 lead and it looked as if the young whipper snapper Sam was on for a hiding. However that was not to be. Sam grew in to the game with confidence and pushed Tony all the way.
The 1st game 9-7 Tony.
Tony turned on the style and won the 2nd 9-3 but Sam came out in the 3rd determined and reversed the score 3-9 to him.
The rallies were intense and it needed a strong confident marker (ME) as the 2 were claiming for lots of lets/strokes as they battled for the T and for the match.
At one stage the ambulance was nearly called in as Tony nearly died with what looked like a severe hip injury. However he made a quick recovery and finished off the impressive Sam 9-4 to take the match 3-1. Well played both.

Up on the next court Ross B took on Tom Holmes (my nemesis of x2 3-2 defeats !!).
As I was marking I didn't see any of this but in usual Tom Holmes fashion this was a 3-2 match yet again. Sadly for Tom he wasn't facing me this time, and on this occasion he was on the losing end as Ross took the match.

The 2 Johns, Santilli of Bromley and Creek of Knole Park took part in a battle of their own.
On court this time so did not see any of this but in the words of Mr Santilli "it was a tap tap down match with very few rallies".
J Creeek took the 1st 2 games for J Santilli to fight back and win the next 3 games. Well done Johns.

My turn to play and I faced a man determined to get back to his baby sitter quickly to avoid the extra fee's for a late stay out.
I apologize to Chris as we also ended up with a 3-2 battle of our own.

Chris started very well catching me out with some hard fast boasts. With me hugging the back wall it was always going to be a Chris win in the 1st and he took it 2-9.

2nd game saw me pushing up the court higher and also playing some decent winners. 9-0 to me 1-1.

Chris took the next game to go 2-1 up 9-4 for me to then take the next 9-3. 2-2 and into the decider.

With Tom watching on it felt like destiny that I would lose again 3-2. Not this time ! A very tight final game saw us at 8-8.
Chris saving match ball called set 2 and after a few hand outs I took the game 10-8. A tough game but satisfying win.

The final match of the night saw Sam Warnett vs Jerry.
The 1st game was a story of Sam playing loose shots and Jerry finishing off with precision. 9-6 Jerry.

In the 2nd Sam was stretching for a ball in the front left of the court and slipped over.

His Achilles in pain meant that his biggest strength in squash, his mobility, was damaged and he couldn't cover the court as he usually would. Jerry taking the 2nd 3-9 and the 3rd 0-9 for a 3-0 win.

Moment of the night went to Jerry who pulled off the funniest serve I have ever seen on a squash court with a left hand serve from the left side to the right box hitting it down approximately 1cm above the tin as he swiveled mid serve nearly falling over. Division 6 at its very best ;-)

Thanks to Knole Park for fielding a team and we look forward to the return fixture.
