Report: | A relieved PL staggered through to the end of the first half, signing off with another tough evening.
Zeb looks to have been pretty much in control against Neil, though I saw none of it, being on marking duties next door. This was about the extent of the joy for the home team.
Jack on his first game back from a month long injury layoff, looked to have come back a little too soon (this wasn't helped by the impetuousness of youth seeing him play a friendly earlier in the day mind you)! He played well and if he'd managed to convert his early lead in the 3rd who knows. Sam kept 'em coming back and Jack struggled with his movement the more the match wore on. By the time the 5th arrived it was a lost cause.
Another case of least said the better about the 3rd string match. Duane had a list of physical woes as long as his golfer's elbow handicapped arm, but the new 'mid paced Duane' was in no mood to wait for the author to perform his customary 'lizard warming up on a rock' routine, and sprinted through the match in short order. Afterwards, Duane's biggest concern seemed to be the dilemma he'd be facing when his arm recovers, if the mid-paced routine has been working well. Stick with a winning formula or return to hack-fest mode?
James suffered from wrong shot syndrome again in the 4th string match. Steady Ed(die) played his usual patient game. James got a bit too excited on occasion. He just needs to know what to play and when to play it sometimes. It's in there somewhere.
Last on, Dave continued the comeback trail with a good effort against Tom. The fitness levels already look improved over the last couple of weeks, and another useful point was snaffled. In the end, Tom (he'll love this!) had MORE FITNESS, and finished off an entertaining game in his usual inimitable style. Obviously the half dozen Ibuprofen did the job.
Nice to see Mark appear as the match was getting underway. Still a good way off a comeback, but hopefully heading in the right direction.
Final thought - sad to see Ray stepping down from captain's slot. I had hoped my long service award would have entitled me to more than a season and a half sabbatical, but not to be. Job well done mate. Cheers.
