Report: | It sounds as though all the action was happening elsewhere whilst PL and BLTC battled out a mid/lower table encounter. BLTC were even without stalwart Palmer.
First up McCaughan v Ford.
The battle of the Kevs was a strange affair. Kev F started off with all guns blazing, quickly racing away to a 7-2 lead. At this point, the wheels came off big-time. Kev M (particularly when into the 2nd game) started to find a good length, and cut out the weak cross-courts and drops from the back.
No doubt assisted by this stellar advice from his captain, Kev M went on to drop only one point in the 2nd and 3rd put together, to record a good win 3-0.
Whirlwind v Thompson.
Didn't see any of this one but Steve looked pretty pasty at the start of the evening and after winning the first and narrowly losing the second seems to have been unable to overcome his general lack of enthusiasm for the cause. The (reported) highlight of the match was Steve launching his racket into the back wall and seeing how far back it would come!
Martin won this one 3-1.
London v Hammerton.
Having been banished to the back court, the game proved to be a contest about who could make the least mistakes. The ball seemed like a lump of putty, and found the tin with monotonous regularity. Clive snuck the first, capitalising on a few mistakes from Ian at the end,and went up 5-2 in the 2nd. Despite this, the game went to the wire, with Ian calling "one" and finishing it off at the first attempt. After an uneventful 3rd the same happened at the end of the 4th. Clive having gone up 7-3 decided to sample the tin height, and we were back to 8-8. Once again Ian called "one" but this time the result was reversed. Win to Clive 3-1.
Rich v Easton.
Didn't see much of this (as usual), but Adam having gone two up seems to have been pegged back by the tricky Tubby, before reasserting his authority to run out a 3-1 winner.
Bonner v Terry.
The crowds flocked to this one (the 4th team match having finished next door) and witnessed a topsy-turvey contest between Andy and the Bionic Man. Andy looked comfortable in the 1st but once the 2nd got going, quickly started to look very jaded. This continued as he lost the 2nd and went 6-2 down in the 3rd. Cue comeback, Andy seeming to get a new lease of life, sneaking back the 3rd and running out fairly comfortably in the 4th to win 3-1.
Sadly the enthusiasm demonstrated by the likes of the Hill seems to be conspicuous by its absence at Langley Towers at present. The redoubtable Lennox could contain himself not a lot after their victory over Bexley, and text messages flew through the ether conveying their result and the return to form of Mighty Mac. Ah well, mabe next year ...
