Report: | PL1 hosted a weakened Beckenham team last night. A tough night for the visitors but a couple of hard fought matches in there.
Steve v Alasdair
Good quality squash in this one, with a number of long hard rallies. Steve looked like he was thoroughly enjoying himself, cracking the ball around to all corners of the court. Al played well but ended up making a few too many errors when under little pressure.
Jack v James G
A similar story on the next door court (not the mistakes bit though). James has made some great strides, and his mobility is impressive, but Jack had a bit too much in all areas of the game and controlled things nicely to ease through.
Author v Faizan
A decent warm up helped the author off to an uncharacteristically good start in this one. Buoyed by some vociferous support in the form of Mrs M, the author did enough to maintain control throughout despite some tricky shots from Faizan.
Paul v Jeremy
Cajoled into a further step on the comeback trail by his manager, Jeremy showed flashes of yesteryear against Paul. Perfect opponent for Jeremy really, as Paul seemed not to realise for quite a lot of the match that the front of the court is largely unvisited territory for his opponent. Jeremy lashed drives and tricky tight boasts from the back, and Paul scuttled from side to side running them all down. A long competitive match this one, with Paul doing enough to sneak it in four.
James F v Max
Max played some controlled squash to take the first two games in this, but the PL coaching staff set the home man on the straight and narrow (literally that was the advice), after the 2nd. Message received and understood, the match took on a slightly different complexion, and James clawed it all the way back, assisted mightily by crucial errors from Max at the end of the 4th and 5th, including a serve out at 9-9 in the 5th (London snr style).
All were treated to James G's views on the US political system in the bar afterwards, with Paul in particular being impressed by the reams of statistics James had to hand to defend his views! Mucho merriment at James's expense for all. |
