Report:CANNONS STILL FIRING

For the 2nd time this season, CANNONS inflicted a 3-2 defeat on the resurgent BCC, but it wasn’t all plain sailing for Mighty Hills’ closest challengers.

BEEVERS vs JT (No.5)

Last week in the cup against Amida, JT produced the ultimate comeback to keep alive his 7 game winning run. Amida were coasting 4-0 up, and JT was staring down the barrel after being totally outplayed by Alex Martin (@4). JT was 2-0 down and 8-3 down, Alex was playing some mesmeric squash

Mike (Amida Captain) even had the audacity to put the result in the scorecard. JT found something from somewhere, and fought his way back, fist pumping and all - and somehow won 3-2. Mikes' scorecard was a mess after that.

As yours truly was on the opposite court playing TED, I didn't get to see tonights match. I did hear plenty of shouts though as JT pumped himself up with HENMAN like fist punching. It seemed to do the trick as he won for the 8th succesive match 3-2.
JT just because you win every week, doesn't mean you can use a flannel as a towel, Batman styley. Get it snorted!!

TED VS El Capitano (No.3)

What a topsy turvy match this was. El Capitano was pumped for this encounter against youngster TED, a match he felt he could win if he could get under TEDS' lip - I mean nose - and wind him up.
TED had other ideas, and walked the first game with a string of crosscourt nicks and hard crosscourts. The 2nd was a tighter affair as El Capitano began to find some much needed width, along with some pressure crosscourts. Anyway 2nd game to TED - 2-0 up and coasting.
TED sensing an easy victory began to show a little bit of arrogance, going for nicks at every opportunity. They weren't working though. A string of tinned volleys, along with some great retrieving from El Capitano, saw the match turned on it's head. 2-1 to TED.
At the mid game interval - SAM came downstairs to have a word with TED who was coming on FRESH, what with his BEAR swearing and rude boy antics. It did no good, as El Capitano took the fourth in similar fashion. TED was well and truly ruffled.
After storming into a 4-0 lead El Capitano began to tire, TED found some renewed energy and clawed his way back into the match. Then at 7-7, two squash novices decided to walk behind the court mid-rally. Put-off by this El Capitano contrived to lose the next point. Then at match point, the same guys decided to do it again. Although TED had played a winner, it stil put El Capitano off. Not the best way to lose a match.
In a rage El Capitano gave the TWAT a verbal volley - TED styley - you get me!

Stabler Vs King Lewy (No.1)

After his recent victory over Dave Harris, the bookies had King Lewy odds on to win this match. Sam was in no mood for charity though, as he easily dismantled a tired looking King Lewy 3-0.
Snort out your PINK shirt Lewy - you are not coming out to play on saturday night if you wear that!!

Peter Vs RuleBook Tony (No.4)

RuleBook Tony on the comeback trail from his MotorBike accident was up against Peter - the match that would surely decide which way this encounter would go.
As the scoreline suggests, this was a one-sided match. Peter frustrated RuleBook Tony with his neat touches around the front, and his deceptive retrieving. The injury seems to have taken a yard off RuleBook Tonys' pace, and his normally tight squash is no longer there.
The main highlight of this match though, was both players disagreements with the marking (which I thought was fine). Peter wanted lets when RuleBook Tony put his hand in the air mid-rally, RuleBook Tony wanted lets when Peter stamped his feet mid-rally. Don't know whether we actually found out the correct ruling on these two points, but it did provide a riveting topic of conversation at the dinner table.

Kimpton Vs BATMAN (No.2)

With the match already over, this game was about pride. When we arrived, Kimpton was sweating hsi guts out on court playing doubles. Not the best idea before a game against Batman.
Batman had just come back from a romantic week in Venice - or so he said! He looked like he had had a great time trying out all the restaurants, was his fitness going to be a factor in this match? As it turned out and as JT pointed out 'For someone who is very large and looks so unfit, you are surprisingly fit!'

Although the result was 3-0 this was a great game to watch with both players playing great squash. There were nicks a plenty, some long long rallies and some great pick-ups.
After losing the 1st, Kimpton looked like he would level as he went 8-5 up in the 2nd. However 3 crosscourt boasts on the volley from behind him went straight in the tin 'I bet you put that in the match report' shouted Kimpton. Batman seized his opportunity and went 2-0 up.
Batman controlled the 3rd with some great volleying, along with moving a tired looking Kimpton around. Kimpton still had time to put a 4th crosscourt boast on the volley from behind him into the tin though.
