Report: | Blimey, back to match reports already!
Hope one and all had a good break over the festive season and it was clear from the match last night that some had a better break than others in these two teams.
Rich v A Good Few Beers
AGFB back from his little jaunt in paradise, in body at least, his head still thousands of miles away.Recent training sessions quite frankly have been hilarious.
Fortunatly Rich had lent AGFB a lifeline as he has surely been eating everything in sight for the last 3 weeks, it certainly looked like he was working on the Anaconda theory weight loss programme.
Didn't see the first game but Rich kept the ball up and took it 9-5. The first time I stuck my head round the corner Rich was spreadeagled on the floor nursing his gut whilst AGFB had his tape measure out checking the tin height !
Long and short of it, lots of errors from AGFB, a visit close to death for Rich and a 3-1 win for the Hill.
Darren v Debt Collector
In comparason to the Little & large show next door, this was a nip and tuck match between two true athletes who obviously didn't let Christmas get in the way of their intensive training programmes.
In truth both a bit ring rusty with loose shots mixed in with the odd good lengths and drops.
At one all in Games,DC finally started to get going racing to a 7-0 lead when Darren hit a shot out at the front/top of the court, Leachy on ref duties then had a bit of a senior moment and called the shot good which left the DC numbed. Concentration lost and Darren fights hard to bring the score back to 7-5. Order was eventually restored and DC took the 3rd 9-5.
Fourth was the same but without the fightback by Darren and DC wraps the game up 9-1.
I have to admit now, the ball out at the front was not a foot out as I first claimed, in hindsight it was probably no more than 9 inches! (Thanks for marking Dave, only joking mate)
Sam v Rent Boy
What a couple of old women these two were !
Never really lived up to expectations this one although it must be said Sam put in a far better showing than his performance in the first half.
Lots of hard work from both players bur every rally seemed to end with disputes to the ref (Darren), self criticism or a under the breath comments to the opponent.
Rent Boy takes it 3-0 but not until He had given his right calf a good work out by smashing his racket into it on 3 occasions with as much force as he could muster. Strange way of testing if his recent gym work on his legs is paying off.
Peter v Laney
I think it is about time Laney came clean with his wife and told her the truth about his Camp, dark side as it was there for all to see last night. Walking on court with bollock hugging shorts coloured with blue/orange/yellow/red/white/green and purple stripes, poor old Pete never had a chance and the look on his face seemed to confirm this.
Pete never really got going in this one for reasons stated above and Laney wrapped it up 3-0 in fairly quick order. As Laney said afterwards, 'A win is a win ,don't matter how you get it' HMMMM.
Leachy v 'Lardy' Mac
Best match of the night this one with both old geezers putting on a great show.
Not to be outdone by Kimpton on the feasting stakes,it was obvious who ate all the turkey and pud in the Mac household over the break. In stark contrast Leachy looked the proverbial lean, mean fighting machine.
No matter, the first game was totally out of character for 'lardy' as he concentrated and took it 9-1. However, the latest advert for Dunlop soon started to feel the effects of his recent gorging spree whilst Dave was moving well and hunting everything down. The scoreline soon showed Dave leading 2-1 in games.
Although the double chin was by now weighing heavy, Lardy Mac will never be one to give up and he risked cardiac arrest to dig the last two games out and wrap this one up 3-2.
Due to the obvious weight issue that Lardy Mac needs to address, the Hill lads only felt it right to lend a helping hand and so ate his meal for him!
Not a great night for the purist but I'm sure by next week both teams will be up to speed (except AGFB, he's got ages to go)
Final footnote.
Aplogies to Slack Badger as I hear he mis- understood a couple of texts sent from the Hill mobiles about our result. Don't worry mate I will explain EXACTLY how it went when we get together on Thursday for the Surrey campaign.
