Report: | All the verbal jousting over,it was now time to play squash !
First up: Dept Collector v Pete Wilmor
Hard to report on yourself after this sort of game. Vitually from the off traffic problems encountered by both players resulting in 'A Good Few Beers' Lennox having to work far harder in the ref seat than the lads on court due to umpteen stopages, quizical comments and expressions to the balcony.
After a cagey first game Pete coming through 9-6 to go one up. Second game and the D.C.concentrated on hitting shots to a part of the court where he was not and seemed to work ok. One each, into the third and after 2 falls 2 submissions and a knockout Pete is 2-1 up.
Love all in the forth and Pete has to call time due to a calf muscle letting go.
Not a good match to play, not a good match to watch and not a good way to end.
Enough said except, hope your return is a speedy one Pete.
Next up: 'Laney v Darren
Didn't see much of this one due to marking duties but what I did see was some good power hitting from both players which Laney appeared the more accurate and a particular drop shot from the above mentioned which could only be described as a textbook lob !
All said and done Laney came out a 3-0 winner and looking in far better nick than last summer. The rehab treatment seems to have worked a treat mate!
'A Good Few Beers' Lennox v Rich
Lots of boasts, digs and general gobbing off between these two in the last few weeks (spent so much time with the Hill over the last month Rich, thought you had paid a membership)
So much anticipation and the first game did not dissapoint with AGFB coming out on top of most hard rallies to go one up.The next two games followed a similar pattern but with Rich gradually starting to control more rallies. That said AGFB fitness saw him able to come through at the end of each game to close out a 3-0 win.
Good game to watch and mark with both players working hard but also with good humour.
'Mighty Mac v Ted
What a match up this was with Mac 35 years the senior.
Didn't see a great deal of this one but it was a classic encounter with the master leaning on all his years of experience to craft some great rally ending shots againt the apprentice making some fantastic gets and some pretty good winners of his own to close out some important rallies.
After going all the way to five Mighty Mac closed this out with good percentage shots rather than the 'ultimate' winner and the result was a good 3-2 win.
Finally: 'Tip Top' Tobster v Sam
Really looked forward to seeing this one, short changing the shower to get up to the balcony only to find TTT 2 up with only one point dropped.
What I did see in the third was TTT producing extremly accurate shots at front and back keeping Sam constantly under pressure. When able to attack, Sam by his own admission kept making sure the tin was where it should be at the bottom of the front wall.
3-0 to TTT and a very polished performance.
The Hill off to a flyer but the Cannons lads not to be underesimated, providing they can keep injury free they will provide a stern test to anyone in this division |
