Report: | DULWICH OFF TO A FLYER
A full strength Dulwichski took on a depleted BCC in South London Tuesday night. All the hype on the Squash forum about BCC being title contenders were squashed by a ruthless Dulwich, bankrolled by some multi-millionaire owner.
Handsome James was back at uni, whilst TD had mysteriously been knocked off his bike in a hit and run accident in Dulwich the previous week. (Coincidence? I think not)
2nd team captain Big Andy was called into action at the last minute, and after his match he wished he hadn't bothered.
Ian having spent the previous season at 1 was now down at 5, and he proved far too strong for Big Andy. Anything Big Andy hit, Ian just killed at the front off the court. Big Andy battled gamely and showed a lot of fighting spirit; however Ian was too strong and won dropping just one point in the process.
On the other court Dutch Prodigy took on Dulwich Captain Duncan. Having just started a new job where he has to regularly travel to Dublin and Rome, Dutch Prodigy has been unable to do much training in preparation for the new season.
He started sluggish in the first, but then regained some of the old fire in his belly (something was definitely in there!) taking the 2nd 9-7. The 3rd and 4th were close affairs, but Duncan was too consistent and went on to win 3-1. Afterwards Dutch Prodigy was heard to say 'He's like a poor man's Clive London'
2-0 down and Tim Garner yet to play!!
JT took on Will on the court where Big Andy had recorded just 1 point. Within 10mins JT was 2-0 down without winning a point. '5 games and they've won only 1pt on this court!! Easy Easy!!' shouted Ian.
However this game turned in the 3rd, and will surely prove the catalyst to JT's season. The burden of expectation weighs heavily on his shoulders, JT never won a match last season, and a 27-0 defeat at the start of the new would have surely put the final nail in.
JT began to relax, find his range and move Will around at will. Some dogged recovery gave JT the 3rd 9-6. The 4th was a similar pattern, with JT getting some remarkable pick-ups and playing some very clever squash, whilst Will was annoying his mother (an ex Dulwich Champion) with his refusal to call lets or play any volleys.
JT found himself 8-5 down, but somehow fought back to 8-8. However a lucky bounce gave Will the game and the match 3-1.
Tim Vs King Lewy.
Back in the good books, King Lewy made his 1st appearance since that infamous BigginGate scandal. However Tim 'Play for Fun' Garner (currently on £30k pw + Dead Nick Bonuses) thrashed King Lewy in a one sided contest. Reporter didn't get to see any of it however as he was supporting JT.
Last on was the EYE man Vs El Capitano.
No excuses here - none really needed.
The EYE doctor had his eye in whereas El Capitano didn't. An easy win for Steve who was rather pleased it didn't go to 5, seeing as he had a tough game the previous night against a new member who may be good enough for the 1st team. (I doubt she will be good enough to get into such a strong squad, with two previous No 1's at 4&5 along with Tim Garner. She would have to be something like England’s Women Number 2!!)
A right thrashing in every sense of the word.
The bar girl( I can't remember her name) even had the audacity to say in front of BCC, that Dulwich should anihlate their opponents every week as she gets to finish early. (That's why I said the other bar maid was fit and not you!)
