Report: | The Priory committee travelling roadshow landed at PL yesterday for the meeting with Bexley. I suspect by the time they left, they probably wondered why they had bothered. PL put up a pretty woeful display it has to be said. The only exception to this being a gutsy win from stand-in Brian Ford.
First Rich v Badger.
As is usual with Adam's games, I didn't see any of it. Looking at the scores appears to confirm the fact that Matt at 3 is pretty strong! Having dropped himself down the order for this week to give SteveF a hard workout prior to the Jersey Open this weekend, Matt cruised through in straight games to set the pattern for the evening.
London v Steeden.
Despite starting both of the first two games well and opening up 3 or 4 point leads, I'm afraid the London fitness levels weren't enough to cope with the Steeden machine. Three games a week and some training seems just too much like hard work these days, but without that - this is the result. Not too much more to say about this really. Mark was too good on the night. Verdict - must try harder.
Whirlwind v Falla.
The motivational malaise that is seemingly affecting the whole PL team at present is perfectly exemplified by the Whirlwind. Ever since his epic battles in the last Kent Closed - at which time he was on fire - SteveP has been like a man in a trance on court. Last night was no different. Picking the wrong opponent to be in this sort of mood against, Whirlwind (more of a zephyr these days), was soon two games down. There was some light at the end of the tunnel when he clawed back the 3rd from a long way down, but SteveF was soon back in the driving seat to earn a well deserved win.
Ford v Latcham.
Thankfully Brian standing in for Kev avoided the ignominy of a whitewash for PL. I only saw the last game in this one, and it looked like a good battling win. Brian eventually eased through in the 5th to cap a good victory and save a bit of face for the team.
Bonner v Green.
New boy Matt seems destined for higher things in the Bexley setup. He looked very impressive, hitting the ball cleanly to all four corners of the court, covering most of Andy's shots pretty comfortably. As the scoreline shows, this was an emphatic victory, and wrapped up a good night for Bexley and a wretched one for PL.
Just to complete the evening on a high note, Adam received a text to let us know that the 2nd team had turned over the stars of Dulwich (methinks not quite such a star-studded lineup as last week). Oh joy. Verily our cup runneth over!
Now, where did I put those running shoes .....? |
