Report: | 3rd Win On The Spin for BCC Boys
For the 3rd consecutive week BCC recorded a victory, this time at the expense of the YMCA boys from Thong Lane!!
BCC were boosted by the return of Handsome James from university, whilst Dutch Prodigy and his hamstring were given a rest.
He must have thought he had gotten away without receiving any abuse over his dress sense, however during a training session on Monday night, Dutch Prodigy was sporting the black socks he had lost from last weeks match, only problem was that they had been eaten by some rather hungry mice. He does inform me however that his mum is down at the weekend! –Wink Wink – Nudge Nudge!!!
King Lewy vs Stu (No.1)
Stu was used as the sacrificial lamb this week – up against King Lewy who was still smarting after last week’s loss to his colleague. Due to marking duties, I never saw this match, but as the score line suggests it was a totally one-sided affair with King Lewy finding his range of nicks. Spurred on by his watching brother he demolished Stu in 3 quick fire games.
JT Vs Mike (No.4)
JT maintained his No.4 position after last weeks win at TWRC. He was up against Mike who was baffled to see JT down at 4; clearly there was something dodgy going on with the team order? However this was a bit of kidology from Mike, who caught JT cold in the first, capitalising on JTs’ errors. JT began to find some line and length in the next as both players battled out a tight game. The odd burp from BBGB ruffled both players as they lost concentration at vital points. However it was Mike who lost total concentration as he threw away the next 4 pts having been 6-5 up in the second.
The editor was on girlfriend duties, so Handsome James marked the remainder of the match. JT was inspired and he whipped Mike for 1pt in the last 2 games. Another win for JT who is making a habit of starting slowly only to finish like a speed train.
Handsome James Vs Mo (No.2)
After 3mths out with a metarsal injury, Handsome James was back on court up against his old sparring partner Mo, who had been tactically placed at 2 in a bid to get 3pts. A combination of drinking/no exercise and chasing women all day would surely leave Handsome James gasping for air in this encounter.
Mo leapt from the blocks and raced into a 6-0 lead, only to see Handsome James produce a mini fight back and claw himself back into the match. Some long rallies and deft drops saw Handsome James edge in front, only for Mo to counter with some hard crosscourts, the end result was a 9-8 win to Mo.
Yours truly was supervising the girlfriend during the next, but according to my source, Handsome James reeled off a string of winners that had Mo bemused. 9-2 to Handsome James and 1 game all.
I was on court for the final 2 games, but it appears that Handsome James just ran out of steam. Assistant to the Editor (JT) informed me that Handsome James was clearly lacking match fitness as he stooped to the ground after each rally gasping for air, propping himself up with the racquet.
For someone who has been out for 3mths and drinks as much as he does,(although not as much as his older brother) this was still an impressive display by Handsome James, however you can never bet against Mo and his fitness levels, must be something to do with the food he eats at home!!
Tony Rule Book Davies VS Bob the Bent Bobby
In a game riddled by controversy Tony Rule Book Davies stepped up to the challenge of the No5 position with a great fighting spirit for winning back his No4 position.
Bob the Bent Bobby had different ideas and pulled off some great line and length to grab a few well deserved points in each game. May I make the point of saying this was the best performance I’ve seen from the Bent Bobby and if it wasn’t for fitness, a large mid day Chinese and being pregnant he may have done better. Tony pulled off the win in fewer than 30 mins and pushed Bob the Bent Bobby until he couldn’t take the rigours of labour any further. With a great belch that shook the building he finally lost, and for the come back kings of Bromley, the match was won 3…. Something, later to be 3-2 after a tired display from El capitano.
9-4, 9-4, 9-1
(By Assistant to the Editor)
El Capitano Vs Tony (No.3)
With the match already sealed, El Capitano was looking to continue his recent run of form and gain max points against wiry Tony. The 1st was a tepid affair with both players struggling to find any form – with Tony just edging it.
A change of racquet at the interval inspired El Capitano in the next two as a combination of high serves and taking the pace out of the rallies put him 2-1.
However the ongoing effects of flu began to take its toll on El Capitano as Tony began to find his length. His deft drops and reverse boasts had El Capitano floundering around the front – and hence levelled the match 2-2.
With his mind elsewhere in the 5th El Capitano succumbed feebly as Tony dropped only 2 rallies.
Another win for BCC nevertheless and a handful of points ensuring safety for another season.
The meal afterwards was entertaining as usual. Handsome James was showing off about his latest conquest, whilst BTBB and Stu were arguing over daughters.
Poor Mo was sitting there subdued – clearly apprehensive about the journey home. He only had £5 for subs, and BTBB had told him he could pay the rest by other means.
