Report: | Well the evening kicked off with 2 sad old men hanging over the balcony recalling past glories, the odd unlucky defeat and the inevitable bad call which cost us the match etc, etc.
The two old men being Debt Collector and Rob Lewis(bit like the two old geezers out of the muppets) both dropped to make way for younger talent we were told.In Rob's words'I've been abandoned, don't those *ossers remember the times I've dug them out the *hit this season!'
Blimey I thought,he's in a bigger black cloud than me.At least my team hadn't abandoned me.I was still allowed to drive them to Bexley,I was even allowed to do this match report, and just to prove they still loved me,they even allowed me to record their games on AGFB new camcorder. Now that's what I call mates!
In the meantime the usual Bexley/Biggin forplay was in full swing between Slack and AGFB.
'So what's your order?'',No you tell me first' and on it went for a little while until the inevitable agreement to write out the cards and turn them over. Can't report what Slack said when he saw the Hill order but it wasn't "Oh jolly good"
Audit Alex v Slack
This looked on paper like it could be a close one having seen both these lads quite a bit this year.
Slack jumped out of the blocks fastest hitting great length and width with plenty of pace which Audit struggled to cope with.First game over very quickly 9-1 to Slack.Audit then given a good beating by Rent Boy in the break which resulted in a very different player going back on court for the second.
Audit responded by getting on the pace and adding tight drops and low boasts. From this point there was only one winner.Audit taking the next 3 games 9-0,9-2,9-3.
Probably saving yourself for Thursday Slack, good man.
Laney v Steve
Always a no holds barred event between these two and this encounter was no different.
Laney hit the ground running smashing the ball into submission at 200mph,1 inch above the tin. 9-3 to Laney.
The second saw Steve draw on all his experience, mixing things up and taking the pace out of the game,Jon started making to many mistakes and the second goes to Steve. The third went the same way with Jon drawn to the tin like a moth to a flame. The fourth was all blood and guts but with the tin being given a little respite, the heat was back on Steve and a fifth game looms.
Jon took an early lead but Steve then dug out same very tough rallies with fantastic 'gets" always making Jon play one more shot. At 5-3 to Steve Laney suddenly re engaged with his Crashbangwallop mode and at a blink of an eye was at 8-5.The ball was then hammered into submission and Steve succumbed in the same way.
A very good game with no quarter asked or given.A first win for Laney over Steve, but this duel has a few more twists in it yet over the coming seasons I'm sure.
AGFB v Matt G
Again this looked to me like it would be a tight match but as both lads conceded,it never really got into top gear.
Matt making several errors in the first giving AGFB a comfortable 1-0 lead.AGFB then returned the compliment in the second before at 8-3 down cutting out the mistakes and just keeping the ball up.Clawing back the the point to 8-8,Matt set one and duly lost it.
The third saw AGFB instill a certain amount of control into prceedings and ran out in the end a comfortable 3-0 winner.
Rent Boy v Mark
Not too much to say on this one as all 3 games were pretty much the same.Rent Boy in general commanding the T with Mark covering a hell of a lot of court to keep in each rally. That's not to say Rent Boy waisted any opportunity to give his calf a damn good thrashing at any available time.I don't think he feels he's had a game unless he has severe laserations imprinted on his legs at the end, almost like a badge of honour!
A comfortable 3-0 win for Rent Boy but take nothing away from Mark, this guys fitness is admirable.Never stopped running and looked like he could have gone on all night.
Fordy V Steph
Good to see to old Pro's on court (Dosn't quite sound the way i meant)
With Slack up to his little games with the order, this was an unexpected matchup but it actually lead to a really entertaining game.Dare I say it brought out the best of Steph, consistently hitting nicks from all parts of the court and on a number of occassions drawing a wry smile from Fordy (well I assume it was from the shot she played).
A 3-0 win for Fordy but if Steph had played like this in the first half the result may well have been different.
All in all a very good night for the Hill leaving Slack in a pretty dark mood.Still, credit to the guy,he still managed to slip off for 15 minutes to 'change the barrel' with the barmaid before the night was out.Good work mate!

Thought I might come out of match report retirement this week to add a line or two as promised!!
Well played and congratulations to Biggin Hill for more than likely going the whole season unbeaten.
Also like to say very well played to my own team... nowadays it seems its rare to find a club that consistently fields players that actually play and socialise at said club. dare i add are members, nope better not.
Having said that, after years of Bexley domination its nice to have someone to aspire to beat again. heehee...past glories!!
