Report: | JT IS THE ONLY SHINING LIGHT AS BCC TUMBLE DOWN THE HILL
It had to come to an end eventually. A 7th league win on the trot was a match too far, as Biggin Hill completed a remarkable season, going unbeaten for 18 league games.
BCC arrived 20mins late after designated driver JT struggled to complete a 3pt turn on collection of Dutch Rag. ‘It was like a large Hippo turning in a small bath’ said King Lewy as he downed his 5th pint before the match had even started.
Toby Vs King Lewy (No.1)
Having spent the Monday night in the pub, the general consensus was that King Lewy would go down without much of a fight against fellow AA attendee Toby. How wrong we were?
The first two games were close affairs – (although not reflected in the scoreline) with plenty of running from both players, some great nicks from Toby and some great pickups from King Lewy. Toby seemed to lose his head in the 3rd has King Lewy battled gamely. Toby’s frustration got the better of him as he hit a series of unforced errors, this let King Lewy back in and he took the 3rd. Normal order was restored in the 4th though, with Toby hitting some delightful lengths and some hard crosscourts. He wrapped up the game and the match in impressive style.
Like AA brothers in arms, both players hit the bar early and provided support for each other in their quest to banish the booze.
Debt Collector vs Tony The Turk (No.5)
With the Biggin Hill squad all turning up late, it was up to El Capitano and Dutch Rag to mark this one. Both players are known for being notoriously argumentative; it needed two strong markers to deal with the abuse.
It turned into a bit of a comedy affair really. The easy decisions were left to Dutch Rag whilst both markers looked at each other in bewilderment for the contentious decisions. Needless to say both players were frustrated at the lack of consistency. This was topped off at the end, when Dutch Rag got the score muddled up (something he’s beginning to do rather regularly). Ray thought the game was over, whilst The Turk was adamant that he still had one more chance to win the game. In light of the farcical marking, Alex relieved them of their duties.
This didn’t change the outcome though. Ray was consistent (for once) in his rallying, whilst Tony The Turk’s ankle (wrapped up like a xmas present) hindered his movement around the front. Ray pushed on and won comfortably in 3.
Laney Vs El Capitano (No.3)
Laney was promoted to 3 in a sly attempt by Pretty Boy to gain maximum points, and it proved an inspired move. Straight from the off, Laney was all guns blazing, his 100mph squash had El Capitano in a spin, nicks flowed, crosscourts were killed and volleys were put away Sampras style.
The 2nd was closer as El Capitano attempted to take the pace out of the game, with some tight lengths. Laney was gasping for air towards the end of the 2nd, but he still had enough to hold on.
Laney was back in crash bang wallop mode in the 3rd, whilst El Capitano grew increasingly frustrated with his error strewn game.
An easy win for Laney, who surprised El Capitano with his consistency and tight lengths.
Pretty Boy Vs JT (No.4)
‘COME ON’ what a match this was. This match had everything. Great lengths, killer nicks, lucky bounces, bad/good marking and even some light hearted humour.
Due to being pummelled to a pulp, the Editor missed the 1st two games, but it looks like JT was still negotiating his 3pt turn.
From somewhere though, JT found some resolve and worked his way back into the match. His excellent retrieving and some lucky bounces gave him the 3rd. He then fought long and hard in the 4th, putting enough pressure on Pretty boy’s game to force errors. JT found his width, and his drops began to pay off. Coupled with some inconsistent marking by Debt Collector, JT forced a decider.
The last game was nip and tuck all the way, having 10-9 written all over it. Pretty Boy surged ahead towards the end of the game, only to be pegged back by JT. Some very contentious decisions from the marker (for both players) prolonged the agony for the fans. The highlight being a ‘No Let’ call against Pretty Boy – who attempted to play a drop whilst JT pushed him to the ground. Anyway Pretty Boy held on and won.
Alex Vs Dutch Rag (No.2)
The Editor never saw this one. For 2 reasons, one because he was watching the intriguing match between JT and Pretty Boy, and 2 because as King Lewy put ‘The match lasted as long as one rally of JT’s match’.
It was a mauling by Alex, with Dutch Rag saving his worst performance for the last game of the season. He did have an array of excuses though.
Contact lenses, no light on the court, dodgy trainers, tiredness, and he was just too good.
At least his attire was ok.
With the match done and dusted at 11pm, the champions sipped champagne in the bar, whilst some of the BCC players got in on the act as well. They were reprimanded though by El Capitano. ‘We haven’t won anything, why are you indulging in Champagne?’
Biggin Hill won another award on Tuesday, with Laney gaining the ‘Worse Dress Attire’ award from Dutch Rag. His Technicolor shirt with matching shorts was like something out of the 80’s. Apparently his wife had said he must dress up for the occasion.
Tony The Turk fell under the influence of King Lewy and indulged in some heavy drinking that stank the car out on the journey home, whilst Pretty Boy showed pictures of his newborn to the cooing bar staff. He still had time to send his regular text message though. ‘We won 5-0 again, how did you get on?’ Mate we just played you – sort out your group text.
WELL DONE BIGGIN HILL
