Report

Report: Another warm night at the lane where BCC3 welcomed Knole Park.

1st up Ross “the postman” vs John.
Helping out again Ross, who is in a good vein of form, started the strongest. Hitting the corners moving John about. 1-0 BCC The 2nd started much the same. Although Ross had forgotten how to hit a drop. Pinning John in the back corners he had the power to take the 2nd. 2-0 BCC. John realised that Ross had zero short game and was playing Egyptian squash hitting everything to the back and John just stood on the back wall picking Ross off. It was a closer game but Ross came through at a canter. 3-0. 1-0 BCC
“Super stevie Pusey” vs Tim. Firstly like to thank Danny for the neatest score sheet.
Steve playing up due to our No1 away, again didn’t let the team down. He played an opponent who hit the ball very hard and got around the court very well. On a night which didn’t suit Steve’s game we anticipated a tough match. The -st was just that. SSP was playing very well hitting the ball tight and cutting in his trademark backhand drops. But tim wouldn’t go away and kept within a point of steve. But steve kept his nerve and took a close 1st 10-8.
The 2nd was The was a copy of the 1st, steve being just a point in front of tim until 5-5. Tim finally got his nose in front taking 7-5 lead. Lots of changes of serves later SSP closed the gap to 7-7. Then after a very long rally with Tim covering all the court, SSP got a game ball and with a fantastic backhand drop took the 2nd 9-7
The long rallies of the first two games took there toll on Tim and SSP kept up his good length and killer drops and closed out the match 2-0 BCC
Stew “the court stealer” vs peter. Stew has been struggling with form had been training hard and it showed. Hitting the ball cleaner and his touch had come back.
Peter playing up at 2 from 5 was up gains it but he didn’t let himself down keeping TCS honest through the 1st it was just some unforced errors which let him down 1-0 TCS.
Peter got off to a better start in the 2nd and it looked like stews fitness might be struggling, but it’s like trying to get a bone off an angry dog getting a game of Stew and he kept Peter turning and working and stew came through to take the 2nd 2-0 BCC.
The 3rd was a lot closer. Stews levels had dropped and Peter The spring chicken seemed to get quicker. After a couple of epic rallies it was Stews experience that came through and closed out the 3rd 9-7, 3-0 BCC.
DAN “the show boat” vs Jerry
After a weekend of playing squash above his levels it was clear that TSB was on form from the knock up. Dan is very hard to beat in the early stages of a match. He keeps a high position on the tee and is quick to react to anything loose putting away normally sending his opponent the wrong way in the process. It’s a joy to watch and Jerry walk into this Dan. TSB winning the 1st.
The 2nd was much the same as the 1st. Dans energy levels still high he kept the ball tight and hit the back corners. 2-0 TSB.
The 3rd TSB lost focus and Jerry fought his way back into the match. Jeramy chased the ball down and forced TSB Into errors winning the 3rd 9-5.
TSB regained his focus in the 4th and took a commanding 8-0 lead. Jerry kept running but Danny’s clean hitting and quality length was just to good. Danny closed out the match 3-1. 4-0 BCC
Final game was myself “the fat boy” vs Sam. We walked on court at 9 o’clock. Sam was disappointed not to be playing out No1 Keeley and I could tell Sam was up for it as he hit more nicks in the knock up than I’d hit all season. In the 1st game I could see where the rest of the match was going to go. I hit a shot which I believed to be a winner and Sam went and got it. I’d hit the next shot into the opposite corner Sam went and got it. His speed was ridiculous. In the end I scraped the 1st 9-7.
2nd game Sam got better. If I left anything short he was quick to the ball and put it away before I knew it I was 7-3 down. Sam quickly evened up the match 1-1. Sam took the momentum of the 2nd into the 3rd and took it 9-2. All I could do was keep the ball tight. Vary the pace and keep Sam running, hopefully he’d run out of puff. My patience paid off and Sam made a few unforced errors and I pinched the 4th 9-3. Fifth and final game. Could the old fella beat the whippasnapper. A combination of boring squash and some deceptive stuff seemed to be doing the trick and Sam looked to finally be running out of steam and I got to 8-5. Sam saved 3 match balls and after I took it upon myself to chase around the court which was a silly idea for a chubby 44 year old as it took me 4 points to get my breath back. Now I’m facing match ball against me. I saved it and dig deep and got the next two points to win 10-9 in the 5th after an hour and 20 mins. Fantastic game and 5-0 BCC. look forward to the return.
