| Report: | In an unprecedented move, opposing captains agreed to field 'weak' sides, to even up the match.
Young Jolly John found out that cunning old Syd had a trick or two to play, as he suddenly found a stronger player to take over the 1st string slot.
Not to be outdone, JJ picked his oldest wiliest veteran Gary to take on Syd in the hastily rearranged Knole lineup.
Darren at 1 showed flashes of brilliance in both the knock up and the first half of the first game. But Tom Candy was not to be shaked off by Darren's deft drops, which became softer and softer until they eventually didn't quite reach the front wall. It wasn't from weakness on Darren's part, as he proved by repeatedly hurling (or letting slip) his racket towards the end.
Young Chris at 4 for Knole, in only his second outing, was too sprightly for Simon and also ran out a comfortable 3-0 winner.
Gary, as expected, was bemused by Syd for the first game, but gradually worked him out and overcame the early jitters. And Jerry, in the battle of the lefties, eventually wore down tough Andy to give Knole a 4-0 lead.
A therefore relaxed JJ took to the court against Alan Marsh not desperately worried about
his season-long winning streak of 1. Alan proved to be worthy of the honour of ending that streak and, although JJ had his chances in the fourth, the speedier man always looked like taking the consolation points for Fitness.
KP put some distance between themselves and danger by this result, but remain firmly rooted in 7th spot - possibly for some time.
