Report

Report:The opening game of the new season and The new BCC2 team welcomed Park Langley 4 to the Lane.
First up was Keeley vs Rhys. (No1s) With Keeley winning the last three encounters it was obvious from the way Rhys was warming the ball up, he meant business and this was even more visible when Rhys took the first 9/2 with a display of power and precision shots. The 2nd was much the same. Rhys continued to play great squash and Keeley was looking out of sorts. Rhys took the 2nd 9/3. The third game saw Keeley try to control the pace and slow the game but Rhys was playing well enough to change his game and got to 8/5. Keeley dug deep and battled back to 8/8. After a couple of long physically exhausting rallies Rhys won the match 3/0. 2/9 3/9 8/10

Scott vs Michael
I knew this was going to be a tough night when I saw I was playing a 15yo who was taller than me. The 1st game started out well both playing well and taking the ball early. After a couple of long rallies I’d wished I’d stayed away from the beer and bbqs this summer. Michael took the 1st 9/6 2nd game was much of the same. Michael kept the rallies going and wore me down. The noises between points sounded like I was making a dirty phone call. Michael won the 2nd 9/3. I don’t think I’d got my breath back by the time we’d gone on for the 3rd and the 2nd rally of the game was a killer. I was sprinting (well waddling,) from corner to corner, I thought that I’d won the point only to see the whippersnapper fly past me and get my so called winning drop shot and some how play a fantastic cross court drop off of it. I was gutted and knackered. Michael cruised to a 3/0 victory. 6/9 3/9 2/9

Not the start we’d wanted. Next up was the new boy Vinay vs Anthony. Vinay was a contender for WALLY OF THE WEEK after he announced that he had forgotten his socks and had to go home before the match had started. I must say his court play made up for his forgotten socks. A fantastic display of disguised shots and power saw him take the 1st 9/3. More of the same in the 2nd with Vinay keeping control of the center of the court making Anthony do all the running and then Vinay would put away the loose ball. 9/2. We then witnessed the first bagel of the season in the third. The power and precision of vin was to much for Anthony.

Danny vs Toby. We had to win this string to take it to a deciding game, and Danny played some great squash getting of to a fast start only dropping 2 points and 3 serves. A great display of touch saw him take the 1st 9/2. It look like the showboat had stayed away. Danny won the 2nd by the same score but Toby has his chances to win more points with his fair share of hand outs. But Danny kept him pinned it the back corners and forced the errors. 2nd 9/2. Danny took a 4/1 lead in the 3rd and looked to be cruising to victory. Toby didn’t give up and kept running. Getting in front of danny and playing attacking boasts when Danny was pinned to the back wall. A long rally at 3/4 saw the dreaded hand on head from Danny and Toby took the 6points without dropping a serve. 4th game saw sweeny come out of the blocks like some one had just shouted “first one here gets free beer” and got to 8/1. This was great. Danny was playing good squash. No showboating. Then he showboated. Trying scandalous shots. After a long rally of Danny faking a drop then flicking it over Toby’s head for him to scramble and boast, Danny held, drew Toby forward, then “flick” over his head it went. Every time the boast came back I was willing Danny to kill it be he flicked it a total of 5 times the last of which Toby read and killed the volley. Danny then put his hand on his head. Toby’s fight back saw him take 6 points in a row. 6/8 its all was getting very tight. Danny got his breath back and play two quality rallies and took the 4th 9/2 9/2 4/9 9/6

With the match all square at 2/2 it was down to Ian and Nolan to decide this match. The first saw both players trying to hit the ball through the front wall. Riducliously fast rallies with Nolan scampering round our McMeckenators big frame. Nolan took the first 10/8. The 2nd saw Ian remember he had a drop shot in his locker and moved Nolan about a lot more. Nolan’s retrieving was crazy. But Ian kept the ball tight and accurate. Taking the 2nd 9/6. Third game was another tight affair. Both players still full of running, at the beginning. It got to 6/6 and it looked as if Ian had won the battle and won the next three points. Ian 9/6. I think we should have drugs tested Nolan after the game as he came back on court for the forth like a man possessed. He seemed to be full of running again and his error rate dropped. Nolan quickly took the forth 9/2.
2-2 in matches and 2-2 in games in the deciding match. Both players came like it was the 1st. With fast punishing rallies who was going to run out of steam first. At 5/5 there was a crazy long rally with Nolan coming out on top. This gave him the edge he needed. And took the next four point and secured the match for park Langley. A great match and great company.

See you on the return.
