Report

Report: The new BCC2 welcomed Tunbridge wells squash to the lane. With the heaters on full on this mild night the ball was going to be whizzing about. Best wish for nicks.

First up was Vinnay and Thomas. With his dad watching on the balcony Vinnay had to put on a good performance. The Mumbai maestro got of to a fantastic start taking a rapid 6-0 lead although Thomas’s retrieving was amazing. I don’t know if it was the pressure of Thomas’s ball getting or that Vinnay had noticed our court Sponsor and he’d had a bad bhuna because he started smashing the ball into the tin on way to many occasions giving Thomas 8-6 GB. He looked up and got a stern look from Astana senior the rally rate went up and the error rate went down and and he took the 1st 10-8. The 2nd saw much of the same. Vin “the tin” as he’s now know got off to a quick start and the errors started to creep into his game. But this time Thomas couldn’t capitalise on his serves and “vin the tin” took it 9-4. The third saw young Thomas’s levels start to fade to the relief of Vinnay although his desire to get the ball didn’t. Vinnay dominated the 3rd and won the match.

Dan vs Richard.
Fresh of the plane from tennergrief Dan was down on court time. Used to playing 3-4 times a week he was feeling slightly nervous about this match, but it didn’t show. The showboat got off to a flyer. Hitting the ball sweet to a great length and sending Richard in the wrong direction a few times. Only dropping 4 service points he took the 1st 9/2
The 2nd game was closer. Danny stopped playing his good squash and he bought out his show Boat. Richard battled hard and had 8-7 game ball but a couple of good lengths and quality billy drops got dan to 8-8. Another couple of good shots saw Danny take the 2nd 10/8. Ian gave swweeeen the talk he needed. Stop show boating! Danny hadn’t thought he had been but he took the advice and went on court more focused. Hitting tight lengths and a quality delay saw Richard scrambling around and Danny take control of the game. He closed the match out winning the 3rd 9/5.

Keeley vs Stephan
Still not back a week from Florida keels had dragged me on court for a couple of hours training, which killed me. I knew she was hitting the ball well. The first was close. Stephan got off to a quick start but Keeley kept the rally rate high and it looked to be doing the trick. A long rally would be followed by Keeley getting 2 or 3 cheap points. Keeley wins the 1st.
The 2nd started and Keeley kept the rally pace high again and hit a good lengths and crisp tight drops. Stephan was very quick around the court but was making mistakes. Keeley looked to be in control of the match when she won the 2nd.
Stephan flew out the blocks in the 3rd. Taking the ball earlier and eliminating the unforced errors. Keels didn’t adjust her game and Stephan seemed to know where the ball was going to be each time. Stephan won the 3rd 9/1.
Keels had to up the pace and Get back to high tempo rallies in the 4th but Stephan was still going for and pulling off some great winners to keep the rally length short. He was playing some great squash and keeleys focus was slipping. Was she thinking about the comp at the weekend. Or was it the big spot on her neck that she was worried about. What ever it was Stephan took full advantage and won the 4th 9/2.
The 5th and final game saw Keeley start the brighter. The tempo went up and she pushed hard taking a 4/2 lead. But the Great Zoltowski (sorry couldn’t resist, hopefully he doesn’t read the reports) didn’t panic and slowly got the game back to his rhythm and chipped away. Keeleys energy’s were low now and her retrieving shots weren’t tight enough and Stephan was able kill the ball. Stephan won the 5th 9/6.
Ian vs Adam. With the wally of the week high vis jacket on his shoulders the Mecmeckanator must have had a game plane. Surely it was going to be an impressive display as the week earlier his matches had been mixed results. one was a great effort against Nick Easton just losing 3/2 and the 2nd waS a below par win against Bexley 4 which is what won him the wally of the week. Ian got off to a bright start taking a 5/0 lead. The big man was hitting it well and Adam didn’t look like he liked the pace. Adam then started to get his eye In and at 6/1 down rallied back. Ian would cross court the ball hard and Adam would cut it out and play a nice drop. He clawed his way back and got it to 6/6. We could see a weakness in Adams game from the balcony but could Ian. No was answer. Adam won the 1st 9/6. Danny went down to see Ian who didn’t leave the court and told him what he’d seen. With the showboats advice Ian played a better game. Ian played nice tight length and choppy drop/kill shots and quickly levelled the match
The 3rd game was much the same. Ian controlled the pace of the rallies from the tee and had Adam running around him and that’s a long way to run round. Running around Keeley is like going round a mini round about. Running around Ian is like going round Hyde Park Corner. This was going to take its toll on Adam. We could see from the gallery Adam was feeling the pace and Ian closed out the 3rd 9/3. Forth game was a carbon copy of the 3rd. Ian kept the ball tight and long and forced Adam to do a lot of retrieving and Adam was feeling the effort. Ian powered his way to win the 4th 9/3 and close out the match for BCC.
Scott vs will.
An arse kicking a couple of weeks earlier had made me hit the court a lot and do some training with my dad and Keeley. Both of them pushing me hard. Now it was time to see if the hard work had paid off. Both of us donned our bandanners looking more like Ralph Maccio and William zabka from karate kid than squash players. I got off to a good start hitting the ball well and moving well. I lost a couple of points to wills volley drop so knew I couldn’t put the ball in that area. I took the 1st 9/2. Adam came down to give Will some advise so I was aware that his game might change so the beginning of the 2nd my plan was to attack and see what happened. It worked. I only dropped serve once. A cheeky bagel. The 3rd saw will attack and took a 3/1 lead. But I was full of confidence and didn’t panic. I wasn’t going to do what Keeley did and kept a high tee position and forced Will into mistakes. I won the 3rd 9/3. A good result for BCC2
