Report: | First up 3's, Rob vs Steve
The Bexley faithful soon realised that Rob had arrived in "away match" mode (lose quickly and attack bar slate)....we weren't entirely convinced that Rob knew what mode he was in though. Losing the first, he battled back well but his body hit the wall...literally!!!, playing a shot along the wall he hit his knuckle and the swelling starting. Mean and ruthless Steve, sensing his opponent was lame, went in for the kill to finish off the match 3-0.
Next the 2's, Falla vs Duncan
Longest match of the evening, this one. With both the first two games going to 10 but the points being shared, Steve was looking for inspiration. He found it in the 3rd winning 9-1. Duncan was scratching his head at the start of the fourth and that gave Steve another idea. He waited and waited until mid-way through the game when Duncan finally played a loose shot. Steve leapt over to bring his racket right down on Duncan's head in an axe-like fashion whilst "attempting to play the ball"!!! Well the tactic failed and made Duncan more determined to level the game. In to the fifth, perhaps concussion had got the better of Duncan? Steve finishing it off 9-1.
5s, Mr's Gray and Pailing
Danny stepping up to the 1st team for Bexley, his speed and shots proving very very useful. Winning the first 9-4 and at 8-0 up in the second he suffered a "brain wobble"!!! losing the next 8 points. Fighting hard he produced two fantastic shots to win the 2nd and never looked back in the third. Great debut!!!....Big Leon Nicholson claiming the credit for some very vocal supporting
4's Joss Stafford vs Ian Armstrong
A beautiful game to mark, making it an injured man's joy to not play and mark 2 matches. Ian headed off at 100mph to win the first 2 with good lengths and a tricky boast shot at the front. Joss, very aware that his unbeaten record was in danger of being smashed, up-ed his game (after htting his foot 18times in a row with his racket!!). He clawed his way back slowing the pace and letting his shots do the talking. Up in the fourth he switched his head off momentarily...and again in the 5th, Ian came back but Joss proved he does have stamina to win 3-2. Unbeaten run continues for Joss
1,s Mark vrs Matt
When they went on court the match was at 2-1 Bexley so a win was definitely needed from Mark. Fresh from his consistent batterings in the superleague he was searching for his first competitive win of the season! The first few points looked dodgy and "aggressive Steeden" was in danger of being unleashed! Mark won the first narrowly but Matt came back well in the second, at some point hitting Mark off the front wall with the ball....A shot Big Leon loved and became hysterical about! Mark, embarrassed from the body hit raised his game to win 3-1
4-1 Bexley and 17-8 the much needed points...
Looking forward to the promised opposition Match report (and marking slander) from Ian....come on guys!!! |
