Report: | This was a rerun of last week's Ivor Howell Cameras Cup 2006-7 first round losers 'A' Cup Plate 2006-7 last sixteen tie.
But first, a moment to reflect.
Our beloved 'PJ''s groin gremlin has been diagnosed as an arthritic hip. According to the reports 'he can hide - but he can't run'. And we may never see his like again. Some of us may never like to see his again. But I would ask the one or two friends he made during his many years at Bexley (before they sold him to Knole without a medical) to stop whatever they are doing and think of a few nice thoughts about him.
Meanwhile... Cascades are a different kettle of fish away from home. Missing Craig at number 1 they found themselves man for man outmatched by Knole and the home bounce.
One by one, the Knole men forced their way back in some early tight games. Tempers were controlled; boasts, drops and cross-courts foresworn in favour of good accurate drives and straight volleys.
Tom was impressive at 1 for his improved fitness and determination. Most encouraging was the way he overcame his irritation at a couple of marginal (awful - ed) calls with only a momentary outburst and a couple of foot stamps.
Gary was also sharper than of late in out-foxing Ash, who was sporting a scuba-diving t-shirt. Out of his depth, perhaps? Not waving, but drowning.
Mark tried to restore order with a few of his customary tins against John. But the prime cutter prevailed and by the end John was waving at every passing ball in the hope of a let.
Jerry took advantage of some luck and a lot of steady play to wear down Simon. The first two games could have gone either way several times, but the home team edged them. It's difficult to describe Jerry's play. He just seems to win.
Chris overcame a leaden-footed opening to look comfortable in the end against Pat. Chris's first win of the season should be the start of a long run. And the first maximum pointer for Knole should cement their place in the dead centre of the table. Not easy with ten teams.
Awesome grub from a guest chef. A very happy KP cappy this week.
