Report

Report:Match report to follow, haven't quite stopped being sick on myself yet...

We were only 3 points from Victory!! Again..

-----------------------------------------------

As Slack is hinting to above in his own particular style, this was a mighty close one.
First up

Steady Steeden v Rent Boy
After RB's lacklustre performance against Slack in the Cornwallis final, you could have been forgiven to think SS may have had a bit of a sniff in this one. Not so, RB in clinical form After several weeks hard graft in the gym RB was looking fit and strong. As usual SS worked hard and chased down everything but the big squeeze was on from the first point and a 3-0 result was on the board for the Hill in fairly quick order.

Steph v AGFB
Must admit I had this one down as a win for the Hill before the match but didn't reckon on Steph showing the focus and resolve of her yesteryears on the pro scene.
Clinical boasting and firing in drops from all corners of the court with virtually no errors meant this was a mountain not to be climbed by AGFB.
Great result for Steph but it didn't go un noticed mate 'You were beaten 3-0 by a girlie !'

Slack v Mighty Mac
Didn't see this one but both parties agreed Slack was bang up for this one and played a pretty solid, clinical game.MM worked hard to grab a game but Slack was not to be denied and recorded a good 3-1 win.

The Better Bexley Matt v The Smooth Operator
With Bexley 2-1 up and a done deal apparently at 5,things were looking gloomy on the Hill.
None the Less TSO started brightly nicking the first one 10-8. TBBM came back strongly in the 2nd and squared things up with TSO looking a little dejected.Looks can be deceiving though as TSO upped the anti and played some great squash to win the next two games and match for the Hill thus squaring it all up with the 5's scrapping it out on the other court.

Beam Me Up Scotty v Laney
After the recent meeting between these two in the Cornwallis final, most people (in fact everyone from both camps)had this one down as a Bexley win. Slack at this point could not contain his glee and skipped off merrily to sort the grup and get a celebration beer put on ice.
After the first going to Scott who could blame him. Laney came back in the second working his wotsits of and somehow taking it 9-3. Even with the score at 1 each you still had the feeling Laney was on his last legs while Scott was moving freely and pretty much controlling proceedings. That was certainly the case in the third with the 9-5 scoreline to Scott actually flattering Laney.
With the curtain half closed on this act,Laney threw his last throw of the dice and changed tactics moving Scott far more in this one and starting to force a few errors.Against all the odds Laney grabbed the forth and forced the match into a decider.
By now the Bexley faithfull had gone a little mute,Surely it couldn't all drift away again !
The fifth was not the usual Laney we are used to at this stage i.e. raw meat, raging bull stuff,he was simply to tired for that.It was simply a mind over matter job and a total will to win.
Against all the odds Laney took the fifth and plunged Slack into a world only frequented by the devil on rare occasions.

No doubt about it,this was a smash and grab raid by the Hill.
All said and done,a top night with the Bexley boys as always.
Thanks for laying on the extra food and beer for the number 6 Slack, very much appreciated.

----------------------------------------------

A fair reflection matey!! Two points to add though...

1) This game was actually a 6-a-side match with DC and Rob Lewis playing their match on an outside court. Very well played to Rob who put some Cornwallis demons to rest winning his match 3-2. Incidentally, that score levels the match at 3-3 and 12 games each. Proposal for AGM next year...6 man teams! Bexley seem to do better with them!!

2) Cheers to whoever assaulted my vintage car on the way out. The windscreen wipers will never be the same again. haha
