Report

Report:My Little Pony felled by horse fly.

This turned out to be a real Parklangley-fest with all four teams playing at Langley Towers. The clash of the titans was hit somewhat when it transpired that The Dark Horse had suffered what was initially billed as a broken ankle, but later confirmed to be a nasty bite on the ankle.

Still, hasty reorganisation of teams was arranged by Sly, and we were underway.

First up Wise v Davies.
Andy seemed to have consumed another dose of motivation powder and once again looked to be firing on all cylinders to consolidate his fine start to the season. Nick didn't really seem to have any answer to his mobility and particularly the vicious chopped cross courts. A comfortable win for Andy 3-0.

Next door meanwhile Miles v Pratt.
Squashboy leapt into an early lead as WW seemed to be back on planet fruitbat at the start. In the 2nd WW got it back together until he reached 7-2 at which point the wheels fell off. At this point I had to go on court but a talking to from Mr Motivator and chief physio Adam seemed to sort him out.
The next two games were reeled off and John allowed himself to be drawn into a slowed down game, finally capitulating 3-2. A good win for WW. Major sieze up time afterwards, but heading in the right direction and as entertaining as always to watch. Only Hill's Mighty Mac can hold a candle to this boy for unpredictability.

Second matches - Harris v Robbins.
This looked to be heading for a fairly typical JEJ performance as Dave edged to 8-4 up in the 1st with some fine kills. At this point Jim decided enough was enough and started reeling him back in. A couple of fast and furious rallies ensued as each tried to close out the game. On game ball Dave suffered a tweak of some sort to his back, and that was it - game over with the scorer only being troubled by single further point from the DH racket.

So, match over and PL2 looking unsurprisingly fed up. Next up Wood v London.
Hard to really say too much about this match. Rob is clearly in the foothills of his campaign to regain fitness and whilst producing a steadily increasing repetoire of winners didn't really quite have enough match practice under the belt to sneak anything. So the author eased through 3-0 despite a big deficit in the 3rd.

Last up were Blackman v Grey.
I only really heard this match, but judging from the scoreline it appears that the somewhat dejected looking Sly Fox only briefly dented the progress of second PL1 new boy Grey. The 2nd game got away big-time, but other than that Simon registered a comprehensive win to provide PL1 with a decisive victory, and a (no doubt all too brief) place at the top of the division.

And so to the bar to play hosts to the Priory Committee travelling roadshow, listen to many pearls of wisdom from Kimber as usual, and most amazing of all be the first people to ever see Trevor Grant unveil his chequebook as he actually joined PL officially.
