Report: | A Benitez moment from the so called manager of the month for Div 1 (cocking up the team selection policy for this one) allowed self-styled relegation favourites Amida to notch up a win. Having reckoned without the presence of the Terminator to bolster Amida's order, PL1 were in for a bit of a shock.
First up Seed v Davies.
Andy continued his bid for promotion up the order with another impressive win to add to his collection. The 2nd game in particular was reeled off in no time flat, and despite a pretty well fought 1st and particularly 3rd, had a bit too much in his repertoire for Grant. First points on the board with a 3-0 win.
Next door Lark v Rich.
Having already decided that the court required an air supply at the end of the knock-up, Adam looked a few weeks short of fitness despite (or maybe because of) his return to football. He took a reasonable lead in the 1st only to see himself get pegged back by Dan's impressive retrieving. Traffic continued to flow in Dan's direction in the 2nd. Adam managed to salvage a point by winning the 3rd, but Dan reestablished his authority enough to run out a winner in the 4th for a 3-1 win.
Next up the Londons. First off Terminator Wilde v London snr.
Battle rejoined for the pensioners. Clive decided that getting on top quickly was the only reasonable tactic against the wily Terminator, and dispensed with the usual acclimatisation period known as the 1st game. This turned out to be a goodish match, with Clive only really getting on top in the 3rd to run out a 3-0 winner.
Next door: Martin v London jnr.
Steve will probably want to consign the whole day to the past as quickly as possible, paying the price for playing two games in a day. Having yet to regain anything resembling his pre-injury speed and mobility, Steve struggled to cope with the usual array of nicks and ridiculously tight, risky drop shot winners from the back that are standard fare from Alex's racket. Nevertheless he managed to somehow sneak the first two games. At this point Alex's much vaunted (by him) training paid off. The 3rd was pouched and the 4th won in a single hand, to set up a finale in what was to prove the deciding match. Alex had too much in the 5th exploiting his height and reach in particular to dispatch the ball for winners from all over the place.
So, the final match with the scores tied at 2-2. James v Grey.
Returning to his old stomping grounds, Simon looked to be playing pretty well at the start despite overuse of his newly developed habit of uncharacteristic dinky drop shots. Paul seemed quite happy to run everything down, and Simon spent the bulk of the match not getting any points as reward for his efforts. I didn't see all of this, but it looked like a good match with a somewhat misleading scoreline, though Paul ran out a justified winner 3-0 to sneak the match for Amida.
So it's back to the drawing board for the Bexley match next week. Some squad rotation may be in order methinks. |
