Report: | Rotation policy still the order of the day on the Hill meant Laney and the Smooth Operator hung their boots up for this week.Rent Boy wished it was his turn after a hard weekend in Oxford both on and off court. (How much does it cost to replace a busted toilet mate?)
First up:
Camp Ninja Deano v Long Locks Ian
Never going to be a pretty one to watch or ref.
(and I don't mean their physical looks, hmmm come to think about it they do make a scary couple)
Didn't see much but the shouting and screaming coming from the court did not disappoint.
Ian took early leads in both the first two games and in each case CND reeled him back in and nicked them both 10-8.
In the third CND sreamed louder and Ian held up the white flag. 9-0 to CND and a good win to kick the Hill off.
Rent Boy v That Garner fellow.
Having had a battering in every sense of the word from Phil Nightingale at the weekend, Rent Boy was not looking in particulary good order for this one.
However, when it comes to the nitty gritty RB does seem to go into another zone and he did not dissappoint.
First game saw RB come out the traps fastest playing solid length mixed with great kills to the front when the opportunity was there. 9-3 to RB.
Tim reacted as expected in the second upping the pace and not allowing RB to volley hitting great width and squeezing the ball tighter to the walls. 9-2 to Tim.
The third started to look ominous for RB at 5-0 down but he kept his head and worked his way back in to gain a narrow 6-5 lead. Remarkable pick ups from Tim and over ambitious Kills from RB however meant the last four points drifted away very quickly in favour of Tim.
Into the fourth and again Tim forged a useful lead but this time RB played himself out of trouble with some excellent pick ups of his own followed by clinical kills.RB takes it 9-7.
The fifth was a close affair at 3-3 when a combination of RB's racket breaking (for once not on his calf or the wall!) and Tim showing all his experience to just tighten things up saw Tim finally close the match out.
This was a pleasure to watch and mark, played in excellent spirit with both players a credit to themselves.
Debt Collector v Nick
On RB advice DC changed rackets for the first time in three years to something which does not resemble a club in looks or weight. After 2 weeks its looking like a good move.
A good game to play with both players working hard but in most cases DC keeping things in order by vollying early and keeping the ball tight to a length (Unlike last Thursday Hand Jive)
3-0 to DC.
AGFB V Whirlwind Will.
When these two went on court the winning kill shot left town never to return.
A long hard scrap which I guess was inevitable as both of these lads are unsurpassed for fitness.
AGFB won the first comfortably in scoreline at least. The second should have gone the same way but Will knicked it.The third followed the same pattern as the second but the roll was reversed with AGFB doing the stealing.
The fourth saw Will pump things up taking the ball early and generally bossing things,9-3 to Will. Into the fifth and AGFB looking a bit ragged.
Fatigue actually seemed to work for AGFB as he started to hit a better weight of shot and squeezing Will into the corners.
Finally a very controlled performance in the fifth saw AGFB take it 9-2.
Mighty Mac v Andy
Oh those cynics out there in forum land who seem keen to write off MM. Come, look and marvel at the Mac as he once again repulses another young upstart.
From what I've seen of Andys results this season he is not to be taken lightly but last night he was given a lesson and without charge to boot. Straightforward 3-0 to the Mac in pretty quick order.
A good result for the Hill with 2 points gained rather than one dropped me thinks. |
