Report: | In time honoured fashion, the away team arrived well before the Hill Billies and Alex thursting for a walkover. 'If your not here in ten that's it' Yeah, yeah go and have a Magners!
First up.
Rent Boy v Magners Man
After watching these two scrap it out on Saturday I figured this one would be done & dusted in quick order, not so.
Rent Boy decided to abandon his trade mark straight length work and cross courted at every opportunity. Alex, a bit slow off the mark did not straight away pick up on this good fortune making several early errors before after about the 20th cross court he finally started to get his eye in. By the end of the match he really was starting to hit some nice front court nicks.
Rent Boy being the party pooper he is, always brought things back in line towards the end of each game and finally wrapped things up 3-0.
Not sure who's idea it was to put these two on first (I blame AGFB) but the competition carried on in the bar for the rest of the evening, not sure who won that battle.
Camp Ninja Deano v Dan
Didn't see a single rally of this one, they went on after me & Grant and came off well before. CND obviously in no mood to take prisoners.Apparently he served out the second game in one hand from the start.3-0 to CND.
Debt Collector v Grant
I had been told by AGFB that Grant had upped his game since we last played a couple of seasons back and this certainly was the case.
However a hard 3 hour session Saturday with a run thrown in Sunday meant DC was more than up for the Challenge.
All three games followed a similar pattern with Dan taking plenty of early vollies and moving well while DC strived to keep things tight.
DC not in any hurry to end the rallies finally wrapped things up with a good 3-0 win.
A Good Few Beers v Paul
This one had the makings of a good scrap with both players relying on fitness and speed to force the openings.
AGFB made a few less mistakes in the first taking it 9-7. The second was a complete reversal with Paul keeping the error rate down and nicking it 10-8.
By now the walls on this court had a nice sheen of moisture on them with both players moaning about their ability to play I tight boast on them. Now you would have thought if the boast was a liability then leave it alone unless you had no choice. Well that's not how their logic worked,if anything playing more boasts and complaining louder seemed to be the solution.
All said and done AGFB played slightly more up and down in the next two games and won 3-1.
Mighty Mac v Andy 'The living robot'
Well a rematch of the classic encounter these two had in the cup final at Langly Towers promised to be another tough encounter. Only trouble was Mighty Mac never read the script!
This one was never in doubt as the Mac totally dominated proceedings.Thats not to say Andy was ready to roll over (I don't think that's ever happened or ever will)
A combination extending the rallies, low error count and fine nicks and drops to finish off each point meant a resounding 3-0 win to Mighty Mac.
So a welcome points haul for the Hill Billies snuffing out Slacks sniggering little comments before tonight having already claimed a W/O and expecting a closing of the points table.
As you said on your text Slack '*astards, lucky *astards'
