Report: | Well, the Dulwich boys must have been pleased with their win. Bearing in mind their normal reluctance to go near the website I was somewhat surprised to see that their result had been entered before I got home after the match!
Still, without wanting to whinge too much about another loss to our bogey team, Dulwich were at full (summer) strength and PL1 struggling at the top end yet again. Maybe one of these days we'll get the heavy artillery there. That'll be a first.
First on - Armstrong v Rich.
Everyone who knows Ian knows he likes to dominate the T and whack seven bells out of every shot. Despite this Adam decided to play him at his own game and to be fair, for a couple of games it wasn't going too badly. Honours were even after two, but Ian kept the pace up and Adam started to wilt a bit on the warm courts. So first blood to the pony-tailed one.
Across the way - Browsdon v unbelievably early arrival Currie.
Mike excelled himself tonight and was raring to go by 7.45pm. Unheard of. This was a power hitting contest, with both players generating terrific pace of shot. Will was the more consistent though, and whilst Mike looks as though if he could cut out the mistakes he'd do well, it doesn't quite seem to happen for him. The scoreline suggests a routine victory, but Will did have to work for it.
So, looking down the barrel already and the author had the unenviable task of rescuing the result against Mr Garner.
No big surprises here. Despite managing to get some respectable points in games 1 and 3, the author wasn't about to kid himself about the number of gears TG was using (unlike some of late). This was an enjoyable game but despite playing reasonably well yours truly was dispatched 3-0.
Next door - Winning v Davies.
Didn't see any of this one, but I'm reliably informed it was a belter. Andy apparently powered in a succession of the by now famous nicks and took a 2-1 lead. Nick clearly wasn't about to be the fall guy though, and proceeded to live up to his (sur)name (well ok it's not original - but accurate), running out a 3-2 victor.
Last on Moore v Fink.
Another good one to watch, but sadly for PL the result was the same. Both players showed grit and a full repertoire of touch shots in the final match of the night. Chris really needed the 1st which got away from him after holding a big lead. In the end Andy just had a bit more consistency and wrapped up the evening in fine style for Dulwich who finished 5-0 to the good.
The prospect of facing Mighty Hill after this drubbing doesn't seem terribly appetising somehow ... |
