Report: | The Hill Billies once again scrapping the barrel with DC joining the mounting injury list, but I must admit it's a deep and well fermented barrel.
Added to that there was a nagging doubt that Beverley Hills Rent Boy would be able to focus on a little squash ball or the Greek police would burst in and make the arrest that had been denied them all last week!!
First up:
Junior Jon v Camp Ninja Deano
This one started with Junior being pulled up by the marker for not wearing his goggles which didn't seem to amuse him unduly, however he started playing the better squash pushing CND to all corners but unlike most players this seems to be part of CND's game plan.Tight up to 6-6 then Junior made 3 errors to gift the game to CND 9-6.
Unfortunatly at this point both players then seemed to focus their attention on the marker (me) rather than their own games which seemed to become more wayward and loose as things progressed. Both players pleaded for more consistancy and from my perspective they got it.More and more lets and strokes were given both ways as and when needed and to be fair to the players they too became more consistant hitting loads of rubbish down the middle of the court.
Next 2 games saw CND sort of get some grip on proceedings and wrapped things up 3-0.
(We can do some drills down the wall on Saturday if you fancy it Junior, Happy Anniversary mate)
Trevor v A Good Few Beers
Well the training camp in Devon plus a good session with Junior at the weekend seems to have done AGFB a world of good.Never really kicked into life this one with AGFB in total control wrapping up a 3-0 win in pretty quick order.
Sly Fox v Stu
Before the start of this one AGFB had written the result off as a comfortable win for Sly, oh ye of little faith captain.
On paper this should have been the case with Stu not having hit a ball for 5 months but you would never have believed it. The first 2 games going to Stu playing steady squash and making some great pick ups.Sly came back well in the third playing some clinical winners.
The fourth was a tight affair but Sly just making too many errors at the front of the court when in a winning position gifted the game to Stu 9-7. A very good win for Stu.Later DC could be seen scrolling through AGFB's phone making sure Stu's number was deleted.
Ted v Beverley Hills Rent Boy
Well this could have been a bit of a scrap with BHRB seriously misbehaving in the Med (just ask Claire London, she got the full SP) and Ted making huge strides this season coming up with performances which it would seem have raised a few eyebrows.
I say could have been but it wasn't.
BHRB set off playing hard, fast squash taking everything early and drilling the ball to a dying length. Ted hung in gamely but the pressure was relentless and errors started to leak into Teds game. Lots of long hard rallies in the first two games but with BHRB calling all the shots it wasn't until the start of the third that Ted got some points on the board. This was only a short reprieve though and BHRB soon wrapped thing up 9-3.
After watching this I promptly went home and booked a week in Greece, think you should do the same Junior and I'll see you out there!
Dave v Smooth Operator
Last game on and well worth waiting for in my opinion.
First two games were pretty much played in the front of the court with both players constantly going for the ultimate winners. This resulted in some great shots mixed with as many poor ones.
This area of the court as most people know is an area you want to keep Dave away from as he is probably the most clinical player in the league when finishing a rally in the front corners.
Finally SO took some advice from his team mates and came out in the third playing all court squash which in fairness brought the best out of both players.
SO gradually started to force the errors out of Dave to bring things back to 2-2. The fifth was an excellent game with hard rallies, outstanding retrieving and sharp winners.
A couple of errors from SO at 7-7 gave Dave match ball which he took first time with a cross court to a dying length.
A hard match but played in a good spirit between both lads.
So a very good result for the Hill Billies and PL2 needing to pull some rabbits out of the hat for the remaining games.
One thing I did notice with the last match was six of the Hill Billies supporting their man and not a single PL player on hand to give Dave the support he deserved. So come on PL2 forget the league place and get behind each other a little support can go a long way. Besides that you missed a bloody good game!
