Report:Lennox Rescues Biggin Hill From Defeat

Mark Lennox surprised everyone last night by beating Sam Stabler, helping to maintain Biggin Hills’ long unbeaten run.

The mind games between these two title contenders started in earnest early last week. With 2 new additions to the line-up, BCC could field a team that on paper could end Biggin Hills’ long unbeaten run. El Capitano kept his cards close to his chest and decided to rest Student and Dutch Prodigy the week before, in the hope that Biggin Hill would think they weren’t available. Big Andy, in his match report for the 2nd team last week did his best to hide this fact, but made it pretty obvious that they were both back and playing well.
Student was recalled to the side for this match, sporting a fake tan courtesy of his new girlfriend, and a bit of excess, courtesy of too much beer and kebabs.

7.40pm
King Lewy Vs Rent Boy (No.1)

I missed the entire 10mins of this game as I was warming up against Debt Collector, but as is evident from the score line this was one-way traffic. Rent Boy proving far too good for King Lewy. I later saw Rent Boy counting the number of serves King Lewy got, the disappointment of giving away 7 serves was written across his face. However there’s always a silver lining – he could hit the bar early. He had 1 more pint of stella than he had serves against him.
Game over 7.58pm

7.50pm
El Capitano Vs Debt Collector (No.5)

What an epic this turned out to be. Both players looked rusty in the warm up, well you could hardly tell with El Capitano as he didn’t really get much of a knock up. Debt collector was practising his drives.
With the priory committee out in force, Johnny Bunce took up the task of marking this match, and he bet he wished he hadn’t.
The first game was close early on with both players moving each other around well. The ball was bouncing up in the heat and the rallies were lasting forever. El Capitano took advantage of any errors and seized the initiative. 1-0.
In the second, El Capitano chased down everything, tiring Debt Collector out in the process. There were several contentious decisions going both ways, but in the end El Capitanos’ fitness prevailed. 2-0 to El Capitano.
At the start of the 3rd Debt Collector looked tired, but, motivated by the screaming from the balcony, he began to literally force himself back into the match. Tempers frayed as the marker made some strange calls, and each player tried their best to barge each other out of the way. El Capitano was left sprawling on the court by a stray elbow, whilst Debt Collector had his ribs bruised. The end of the game was marred by Debt Collector getting out his rule book and questioning a decision. He argued about it for 10mins, but the good thing was he wasn’t going to argue about it, he was just stating a fact, well basically arguing about it.
Fired up Debt Collector pushed on and took the 3rd, and then the fourth in quick time.

It was one game too far though as El Capitano maintained a controlled game in the fifth, leaving all the histrionics behind him and playing some clever squash. Both players were shattered, but it was El Capitano who ran out a deserved winner. Handshakes followed as did the customary shoulder barge – but it was all light hearted. Just two players desperate to win!
Game over 9.24pm

#3 Vs Pretty Boy (No.3)

As I was still banging seven bells out of Debt Collector, I missed the 1st two games as did #3 by the looks of it.
#3 began to find some consistency in the 3rd with some tight squash. Pretty boys’ game became littered with errors, whilst #3 really had the bit between his teeth. Some contentious marking (not by Johnny Bunce) by FC ruffled Pretty Boy and #3 took the match to a 4th game.
FC was sacked from his post so Rent Boy and El Capitano took over the reigns, well El Capitano did, Rent Boy just stood there and texted away all night. The 4th was much tighter with both players straining for every point. Both players were good round the front, but it was Pretty Boy who surged ahead as a nasty slip by #3 hampered his movement.
Pretty Boy had several match points, but #3 hung on in there. In the end though Pretty Boy closed it after another tinned crosscourt from #3.

Student Vs Mighty Mac (No.2)

Missed the first two games which were one way as Student belied his recent form and took Mighty Mac to the cleaners.
Mighty Mac found his touch in the third as Student tired. A series of winners around the front and Mighty Mac was back in the match.
Mighty Mac continued in the same vain at the start of the 4th, but Student found a second win, and began playing the right sort of game against Mighty Mac – (whatever that is). Student had several match points but Mighty Mac wouldn’t give in. But as the fake tan began to drip off his orange body, Student played two great winners to win 3-1 and send the match into a deciding rubber.

FC Vs Laney (No.4)

Laney turned up looking like he had just won the part of Joseph in the ‘Amazing Technicolor Shirt and Shorts Combo’, whilst FC was sweating alcohol before the match had even started – (boozing all weekend – yeah you guessed it Spain).
Three words describe this match – ‘Crash Bang Wallop’ it’s not pretty but it’s darn effective. Any shot by FC was returned at the speed of light by Laney, any loose shot by FC was volleyed into the nick by Laney, and anyone in the way of Laney was dead.
It’s hard to describe the way this match went, winners, errors, bad marking (Johnny Bunce) – neither played better than the other. Laney looked shattered though and the home boys felt that as FC took the 3rd, Laney would fold. However Laneys’ volleys returned to good effect and FC was left scampering around for the rest of the game. Laney had about 10 match points, but eventually ended FC stubborn resistance, handing FC his first BCC defeat, and providing Biggin Hill with another victory. Rent Boy lifted Pretty Boy in jubilation, whilst BCC wound up #3 for the rest of the evening.
Match over 11pm

Sausages and Mash followed, but everyone was too tired and hot to finish the feast.
Pretty Boy gloated in his victory whilst declaring that you don’t have to be a member to play for a priory club. #3 shot off early, knowing that he had done his chances of moving up the order no good – (then got wind that Ted The Lip had beaten him on the Saturday in a club final).
Debt Collector was still arguing about that call, well not really arguing just stating a fact. As Rent Boy downed his 8th Stella he turned round and said ‘El Capitano’s drop was a roller so you wouldn’t have got it anyway!’
