Report: | After the first half drama at Bexley and familiar faces missing in both camps, this to me looked like it could be another close one. Ah well, what do I know.
First up,
A Good Few Beers v Steph
After the first half flogging which Steph dished out you can imagine AGFB's desire for retribution and so it was the case. Plenty of court work when he should have been taking it easy on holiday with sprog and Trouble & Strife meant he was bang up for this one.
Didn't see a single rally but AGFB was 2 up before I had finished my first and the third was almost as quick. Happy smiley AGFB.
Debt Collector v Reliable Rob
Now this game started with both players having a bit of friendly banter in the Knock up and I'm pleased to say that theme carried on through to the end of proceedings!
Rob hit the ground running (probably the wrong choice of words there Raymondo) Well at least playing the better squash Pushing DC to all corners and punishing anything loose,9-1 to the big fella.
Some good advice from Fordy in the break saw DC tighten up and playing to a good length forcing Rob to go for winners from further Back while DC counter dropped anything short. 1-1.
The third saw DC continue this theme But Rob seemed to go walk about losing concentration and frustration setting in at a rapid pace.
Into the fourth with DC 6-0 up, a stroke was awarded against Rob which he politely queried with CND.With Robs query answered the game carried on in its still sporting theme when at 8-0 to DC a let was given to Rob when perhaps he was hoping for a stroke. At this point an unfortunate incident occured when Rob's racket seemed to slip out of his hand and bounce around all four walls, this was closely followed by the ball following the same route at light speed. 'How bizarre' said Rob never having witnessed such peculiar happenings before.
Again a polite conversation was had between Rob & CND before we got going again. A recovery was staged by Rob getting him back to 6-8 before DC wrapped things up 3-1.
A jolly nice game with both players, especially Rob showing true sporting conduct throughout.
Smooth Operator v Slack
Didn't see much of this one but with SO and CND both playing matches in Sussex before this one I was a little nervous of the outcome. Slack didn't help by taking the first 9-4.From what I saw in the next 3 games, SO seemed to control most rallies but Slack was hanging in and coming up with some excellent kills to keep in touch.
SO ground out the next three games without in his words 'playing anything decent' 3-1 to SO.
Camp Ninja Deano v Scotty
A really good scrap with Scott controling most of the rallies and CND giving his impression of a Tasmanian Devil to very good effect.
CND always seemed to make Scott play one more attempt at a kill which in most cases resulted in a mistake.
All 3 games followed this pattern with CND running out a comfortable winner. Have to say this is the first time I have seen CND in the zone and he was pretty impressive. Anyone who has played Scott down the order will know he is a tough proposition so a 3-0 against him was a very good effort.
Fordy v The Better Bexley Matt
Game of the night in my opinion.
Matt went on in a pretty jovial mood having a good idea what was probably coming his way but in fairness things didn't really go according to the script.
The first two games had some really good high quality rallies with Ben playing some outragous deception shots with Matt gamely covering all four corners. 2-0 in fairly quick order to Ben. The third saw Ben take his foot of the pedal a tad after building a healthy lead, this combined with Matt now more relaxed and playing some great attacking winners saw the score level at 8-8. At this point the rallies got even better with Matt coming up with some great drops to close out the third 10-9.
Fordy again built up a big lead in the fourth with Matt again getting it back to 7-8 before Fordy crunched a cross court flat knick to wrap things up.
Really good game this one with Matt coming up with the best performance I have seen from him.
So a crunching win for the Hill Billies while Beverley Hills Rent Boy is plying his trade in Greece. Could be a selection headache for AGFB next week.
p.s Rob,let me know about Saturday.
