Report

Report:With the Amida Surrey Cup stars otherwise engaged, and PL not about to make the same team selection cockup as they had in the first half, things were hopefully set fair for a good night - and so it proved.

First up Davies v Seed.
Andy and Grant had a pretty good tussle in this one. Whilst each game looked fairly even up to about the mid-point, Andy tightened up the mistake count at the business end of each game and in the end looked pretty good value for his 3-0 win. Grant looked suitably relieved (and shattered) when his appeal for a service down on match ball was met by laughter from his teammates and a firm response from yours truly, as he wafted his racket unsuccessfully in the general direction of the ball. Almost as much hilarity as the previous service appeal which resulted in a let after the marker chose the split second of contact with the front wall to look away from the court. Said service duly rolled along the floor out of the nick.

Next door, JEJ v Martin.
With Alex resplendent in his poshest camping shorts, and JEJ fresh from a battle in Surrey Cup earlier, this one went the distance. Whilst I didn't get to see any of this my sources tell me it was an impressive performance from Alex, who seems to be rediscovering the form of his youth. In the end it was all decided by Alex getting off to a poor start in the 5th, for JEJ to ease through.

Next the Londons. Snr v Harrison.
Both of these matches were over in fairly short order. Mike loooks to be in the process of getting several months ring rust out of his system, and the author didn't really have to get into too high a gear to take control of the match for a 3-0 win.

Jnr v James.
Saw most of this. Again, a short match with Steve looking focused and giving Paul (who didn't really do much particularly wrong), very little chance to settle into the game. Once again, 3-0 and all set fair.

Last on (as usual) Grey v Lark.
Having expected to be in the bar before 10pm for a change Simon made his usual start and almost confirmed it for us. Concentration was in short supply, and too much dinking mixed in with a number of gift shots gave Dan just the start he was looking for. After this point though Simon got it together, reeled off the 3rd in short order and narrowly squeaked the 4th. Not to be despite a brave effort in the 5th, as Dan gave Amida some consolation points.

All in all, a good night for PL with the Amida boys treated to a celebratory burger afterwards!
