Report: | Not for the first time this season, injuries and last minute cry offs meant a lot of phone calls and head scratching on the Hill.
Mighty Mac out with a new injury (bad back after picking up a bog!) Laney stil AWOL and at 7pm a call from Camp Ninja informing us he's being sick as we speak. Yuk!!
Finally it was left to Mighty Mac to give it a go which he gamely did bless him.
First up:
Beverley Hills Rent Boy v King Lewey
Most of these reports are thin on detail as I was on court with El Capitano all night.
I'm told by AGFB that KL played a blinder going 2-1 up with BHRB blowing out his *rse.
BHRB hung in grimly and took the fourth and finally got a grip of things taking the fifth comfortably. A close run thing according to AGFB.
Smooth Operator v 3
Didn't see a single shot but 3 must have played very well mopping up things 3-0.
Mighty Mac v JT
Didn't see a single shot of this one either.Still on court for a bit then mugged up with marking on the other court.
MM managed to sneak a game which was a bonus but JT stuck to the task in hand and wrapped things up 3-1.
Debt Collector v El Capitano
Well, where to start with this one?
Our first half encounter was a long, hard battle which saw EC come away with the win.
This one was another marathon but DC took EC's advise from his previous match report and made sure he was fit enough for this encounter.A hard weekend at Limpsfield did the trick.
With results running against the form book on the other court, this would turn out to be a key match for the final result of the evening.
Both players started steadily but with low hard drives,EC eaked out a useful 6-2 lead at which point things took a downward turn for DC.
EC moving fast to pick up a drop, clattered into DC send him sprawling but leaving his ankle firmly planted to the ground. Lots of bleating from DC and EC rushing off to the bar for the ice bag. After about 15 min, life started come back into the ankle and play finally resumed.
In a funny sort of way things actually turned round for DC playing more acurate shots and EC making several uncharictaristic mistakes. At 8-8 EC got things back on track and took the first 10-8.
At 3-2 in the second to DC, EC made a scrappy pick up which DC thought was down. Alex in the ref seat decided otherwise which seemed to throw DC. EC took control at this point and went straight through for the second 9-3.
At 0-0 in the third a long, long rally went in DC's favour and at this point EC stopped running and promptly lost the game 0-9.
The fourth was very close with never more than a point seperating the players but DC finally knicked it 9-7.
The fifth was a very nervy affair with some good squash mixed with some bad errors from both players. First EC took a 5-3 lead only for DC to peg things back and then surge to an 8-5 lead himself. EC was not prepared to roll over and came up with some good tight shots to the back bringing things level at 8-8.
Fortunatly for DC, EC made two crucial errors clattering the tin and handing the match to DC.
This was a long hard battle with both players very much 'up for it'. A few times when both players questioned calls but played in a sporting manner by two blokes who wanted the win very badly.
A Good Few Beers v Jaba The Hut.
With everything now hanging on this result, both players started hitting good line & length and inevitably arrived at 8-8 at which point JTH called one and promptly tinned.
The second was exactly the same with Jaba again calling one and again committing hari cari (not happy with that spelling!)
Third was a bit more straight forward with Jaba doing a good impression of Rent Boy,blowing out his *rse in a very similar fashion. 3-0 to AGFB.
So another very close affair with the Hill Billies just nicking it.
Hope that's the league wrapped up because this old sods nerves won't be able to cope with the stress much longer!!
