Report:Heartache, nothing but a heartache...

Freds do just enough to ensure their own survival and condemn KP to a summer in the wildernesse. Large Freds captain ('in recovery and training'), Dave, doesn't even offer to enter the card. No extra sausages for the visitors are provided.

And it probably all turned on one decision by visiting captain and stalwart, JJ.

Youthful Elliot gained a little bit of revenge by taking a game off JJ, but once again the old man's heart stood the test. 1-0 to KP.

Mark cut and sliced his way to the expected win over part-time Pete. 2-0 to KP.

Dave P made a snack of well-tried Jerry, who had stepped up a couple of rungs to take one for the team.

Then Gary, making a comeback from several injuries, out-foxed a slow-starting Paul to go 2-0 up with little effort. With paul starting to come to life and Gary's legs losing some of their sparkle, marker JJ gave a let instead of a stroke to Gary at around 7-7 in the third. It was enough to put Gary off his stride and take the stuffing out of his match-winning will. Paul gratefully accepted the game 9-7 and the next two games to level the score 2-2. (Gary announced his retirement shortly afterwards).

With hope still alive for Knole, Chris Shepherd-B, fresh from his 100 mile bike ride, took on Matt, with instructions to keep Matt on court as long as possible - given the latter's track record for fading. Chris did more than was asked or expected from him and very nearly nicked it, with some incredible retrieving and even a handful of drop shots. Matt was clearly bemused both by Chris's efforts and by his own triumph - a season-saving effort if ever which has probably cost KP at least £1 in season ticket and TV sales next summer.
