Report: | The opposition were disappointed to hear that the career diplomat Carlos was on holiday. However, this didn't stop it being a friendly match. 4 matches were over and done with by 7.31 ( or 9.30 ) but the fifth strings decided to drag it out.
First up, George and Colin.
A hard first game closely won by Colin. But the effort and court temperature took it's toll on George who succumbed more meakly in the 2nd and 3rd games, 0-3 to Bromley
Dave, I have to be at the airport at 4.00am v Keith.
Dave had a good first half of the season and so got promoted to 3 for the second half. And fully expects to be back at 5 for the winter. Keith too strong, 0-3 to Bromley.
Syd v Ron at 4th string
Syd raced to a 5-0 lead in the first game. Ron put his legs on and started running, and came back strongly to win in 3 games. Syd asked that it be pointed out he was giving his opponent 97 years advantage.
Terry,it's taken 3&1/2 hours from London,versus Ian.
Terry should have used his car, not tried running home, started slowly in the first, but Ian's range of shots, and having such a strong backhand to cope with the Terry's lefthandedness, proved to be too much for Terry, another 0-3 to Bromley
Alan versus Nick
A seesaw match, with some good play and good retrieving by both players interspersed with simple errors, usually in the tim, by both. But the food had arrived and was getting cold, and the beer warm, so Syd ensured 3 points for the home team, from the balcony, by marking in such a way as to wind up his own team player to make him try harder. |
